My OTP is DB/? RPSex (don't want to leave any het stuff out, if such a thing exists. Oh, if it only did!). Seriously.
That said, my favorite Buffyverse pairings in relative order are: C/A, A/X, Faith/A, A/L, A/O, A/W, B/A. Honestly, I don't have one. My OTC is Angel. But for today I'll tell you what grooves me about C/A.
What's something you love about it? That they're both self-centered and saddled with destinies they never chose. (Visions/Vampire)
What's a reason you think these characters are good together? They clash, and that makes for interesting storylines. Plus, there's not much 'mopey Angel' love in canon, and I like that.
What would you say about it if you wanted to try to get someone interested in it? Think of it as a second marriage (after a tempestuous and doomed first love).
What's a scene in canon that occurs between these two characters you really like (if they met in canon)? The fight training scenes in Billy and Fredless are sexy and warm.
What's a fic you love that features it? Brand new, amazing fic by hannasus
( ... )
Now I want some good old down home A/X, A/L, and A/W. I think all three are impossible. Which is of course why I'd love to read someone manage them. Especially A/W. Wesley breaks my heart, always.
But for today I'll tell you what grooves me about C/A.
Yay, because seriously, I didn't groove with the ship on AtS, but whenever I read C/A fic by you, I kinda feel like I'm seeing the light.
That they're both self-centered and saddled with destinies they never chose. (Visions/Vampire)
That's a thing I love about B/A, too.
Plus, there's not much 'mopey Angel' love in canon, and I like that.
Are you saying when Angel loves Cordy he's mopey? *is confused*
Brand new, amazing fic by hannasus that features Cordy after her death called Undrowning. Exquisite. It's bloody brilliant. I told her it reminded me of "The Body," and it really, really does. I got all weepy-feeling over it
( ... )
Okay, look, I'm a B/Aer. I personally believe that Buffy will always love Angel, and that Angel will always love Buffy. But what I love about B/A so, so much is that Buffy loved Riley, too. She loved Spike, or was on the brink of it, too. Angel loved Cordelia. And they didn't necessarily love these other people in their lives less, or in a less lasting, less true way. What I love about B/A is that they still love each other just as much no matter who else they love just as much--or more.
But that's just my perception of B/A. I'm also aware that love can die or bank and that you can fall in love with someone else who you'll last with longer. I just wish more people were open to the idea of loving more than one person. I love the way you put it, too . . . Life as a smorgasbord ;o)
Oh, hell yes. It's no secret what my OTP is and will always be, and frankly, I don't like C/A. Well, C/A in canon. I still have a hard time reading it because of the way ME forced it down our throats in S3/4 *but* when I read lostakasha's fics, I can see it. However,
( ... )
Ditto. She makes me not only believe in C/A in the world of her fics . . . she makes me see the good points in the C/A canon we do have, and how the two characters I know could've fit together.
Of course, I believe that love wasn't as strong as B/A, but it was there.
I kind of agree, but only because I don't think B/S and C/A got a chance to develop. I think either of those two ships could've had a love just as strong (albeit different) as B/A . . . But Cordy died too soon, and the writers just kinda petered out as far as B/S. They didn't know how to do what they wanted in S7, and they wanted Spike on AtS and so severed the ship weirdly. I wish Spike and Buffy had gotten more closure than they did.
Generally, something guaranteed to make me stop reading a fic is ignoring the past relationships and belitting what they meant to both Buffy and Angel. Ditto again. Imo, belittling their past relationships is belittling B/A, as well. It's like saying they're not mature enough to still

Lee, I agree 100%, believe it or not! The whole love angle of C/A was rushed, oddly constructed, and feels forced in some places because it's tied into the sanctification of Cordelia. I will be eternally outraged that ME at once sanctified and assassinated that character because they squandered tremendous potential.
That's pretty much the engine behind the C/A that I write: what would we have had if ME hadn't been all over the place, sloppy, inconsistent and indecisive? So my mission is to make it right. Me so foolish!
And while I'm on the rag topic, I will also forever hate the wimpy/mopey Angel who seems to need Cordeila's lead in deciding if in fact they were in love. Angel WHO? He who will not be deterred when desire grips his balls soul? There's a meta essay in there, but it would be my purile invective against ME, and we don't be needin' more of that, no suh
( ... )
I could have bought C/A (although begrudingly because OMG!B/A4evaOTP!!1!!1!!111! *g*), *if* the writers hadn't shoved it down our throats and *if* they hadn't completely assassinated Cordelia's character in order to turn her into "Buffy-lite." To me, it felt like not only were they cheapening the wonderful character of Cordelia, but they were also cheapening (a) what she meant to Angel *as herself* and (b) the B/A relationship.
it's about love. It's about dying for love, living for it, and sublimating that need so he can be redeemed -- and be worthy of it.
The "Angel as addict" concept that David G. used in fleshing out his character for AtS for me is not about bloodlust, it's about love. It's about dying for love, living for it, and sublimating that need so he can be redeemed -- and be worthy of it.
I'm crying. lostakasha, I don't cry. I am not a crier. That's just one of the most beautiful and true things that's been said about Angel, ever. *hugs you hard*
Ohhh...:::gives you tissues::: :::cries with you:::
Now you know why he's my OTC. Pair him up with someone who gets that, and it will be a`ship that works. When you think of it that way, it weeds quite a few partners out, doesn't it? (Hey...A/L is all about the pretty, so no big loss there.)
A/L is all about the pretty, so no big loss there.
But the way Lindsey doesn't get that, and fights that, or gets that, but can't accept it--that's what makes A/L interesting. Of course, as a 'ship it'd never ever work times eleventy-million, but oh, throwing those two in a room together--it's more than just the pretty that makes my mind go boom.
Are you saying when Angel loves Cordy he's mopey? *is confused*
I cannot fathom why he has to moon around behind her back and wonder if she loves him. Why the hell didn't he give her that look, grab her and kiss her and find out? There could have been fireworks, arguing, fury, tempests ... and the band could have played on with the eventual ending of the romance or Cordy's death by Higher powery-ness, or whatever.
I'll tell you why (she says, steam puffing out of her ears like Elmer Fudd): The writers were waddling through quicksand, worrying about the fan pushbacks, etc., and they made Angel a simpering goofball. I'm still angry about it.
And A/W? To me that unrequited love is canon, and those are the fics I love to read -- where he dies to have Angel just touch him. Oh, my poor, wonderful Wes. There's an awesome fic by kita0610 that you should read -- it's chiling and gorgeous and makes you want to wrap Wes in a blanket and give him some mad mommy love. VI.You'll thank me.
Oh, see, I thought you were saying that you liked Angel being mopey over Cordy. That's what confused me.
a2zmom said it best when she said they could've had a very Hepburn/Tracy romance. There could've been snark. They could've sizzled so hard, and so good. Argh.
For some reason, all links to Kita's StA only lead to the main page for StA. The name of the A/W story is VI? Because I read Losing My Religion and it changed the way I wrote. Every short fic I've written since reading it has been influenced by it. Heh. I'm such a complete kita fangrrrrl.
Yup, VI...it was there when I linked you. And kita0610's writing set the standard for everything I read, and then raised the bar for everything I wrote. Same for romanyg's His Boady A Boat, also on StA. And all of 's amazing A/O fic. Her style? Amazing. (don't let the pairing throw you. She puts magic on the page.)
This fandom kicks it through the roof when it comes to great storytelling...and you do know you are on that list of the creme de la creme, right?
I know. I just have to think about that fic and I get achey and jealous feeling.
And all of [Unknown LJ tag]'s amazing A/O fic. Her style? Amazing. (don't let the pairing throw you. She puts magic on the page.)
I assume you're talking about glossing, since she does all the Oz. And since she can do any pairing and make it work, and make you wonder why you thought it couldn't.
