frankly, I don't like C/A. Well, C/A in canon. I still have a hard time reading it because of the way ME forced it down our throats in S3/4

Lee, I agree 100%, believe it or not! The whole love angle of C/A was rushed, oddly constructed, and feels forced in some places because it's tied into the sanctification of Cordelia. I will be eternally outraged that ME at once sanctified and assassinated that character because they squandered tremendous potential.

That's pretty much the engine behind the C/A that I write: what would we have had if ME hadn't been all over the place, sloppy, inconsistent and indecisive? So my mission is to make it right. Me so foolish!

And while I'm on the rag topic, I will also forever hate the wimpy/mopey Angel who seems to need Cordeila's lead in deciding if in fact they were in love. Angel WHO? He who will not be deterred when desire grips his balls soul? There's a meta essay in there, but it would be my purile invective against ME, and we don't be needin' more of that, no suh.

Not to be snarky here or anything, but B/A is mythic. Their identities are so entwined that they really wouldn't exist without each other, and that is the foundation on which their other loves are built. I believe in Angel as the ultimate omni-sexual :-D. Because of Buffy he's known love for the first time in his entire life, not just as a souled vampire, and he'll be driven to seek it for eternity. He knows what it can be, what it should be, and he will chase it down, period. The "Angel as addict" concept that David G. used in fleshing out his character for AtS for me is not about bloodlust, it's about love. It's about dying for love, living for it, and sublimating that need so he can be redeemed -- and be worthy of it.

Eeep..sorry to ramble. And thank you all so much for your kind words. Wow.

I could have bought C/A (although begrudingly because OMG!B/A4evaOTP!!1!!1!!111! *g*), *if* the writers hadn't shoved it down our throats and *if* they hadn't completely assassinated Cordelia's character in order to turn her into "Buffy-lite." To me, it felt like not only were they cheapening the wonderful character of Cordelia, but they were also cheapening (a) what she meant to Angel *as herself* and (b) the B/A relationship.

it's about love. It's about dying for love, living for it, and sublimating that need so he can be redeemed -- and be worthy of it.

Dear lord, I want to MARRY YOUR BRAIN RIGHT NOW.

I'm crying. lostakasha, I don't cry. I am not a crier. That's just one of the most beautiful and true things that's been said about Angel, ever. *hugs you hard*

Ohhh...:::gives you tissues:::
:::cries with you:::

Now you know why he's my OTC. Pair him up with someone who gets that, and it will be a`ship that works. When you think of it that way, it weeds quite a few partners out, doesn't it? (Hey...A/L is all about the pretty, so no big loss there.)

A/L is all about the pretty, so no big loss there.

But the way Lindsey doesn't get that, and fights that, or gets that, but can't accept it--that's what makes A/L interesting. Of course, as a 'ship it'd never ever work times eleventy-million, but oh, throwing those two in a room together--it's more than just the pretty that makes my mind go boom.

I just wanted to say that I love what you wrote about B/A being mythic, and that Buffy was the window to his ability to love. Such a great insight.
