fandom angsting and moaning

I also posted The Eighth Tale on AO3 herePeople say I suck at summaries, so I probably didn't adequately explain that fic. It deals with timey-wimey and time paradoxes, possible futures that might also be possible fanfics, Harry/Draco sex, and then a sad ending. The fic was actually the summary of a fic that I'm not actually going to write, so I ( Read more... )

AO3 stats say that some things that I posted over a year ago are still getting picked up

Do you know if it was recced somewhere? I still have a story that I wrote years and years ago get comments all the time--but I know exactly what rec list they're coming from, and know that it's a rec list that people use a resource a lot of the time. I also know that that story would never have made that rec list had I not written that fic at that specific time for that specific fest. I have other stories that are yonks old that still get hits as well, but there are usually reasons for those as well (the rec list, the pairing, the person who decided to raise it up as their own particular cause, etc). I mean, I do think you are more likely to get random hits on AO3, because people will go there just to read fic whereas you can't really do that on lj, but in a large group like H/D, you're still going to be a bit hidden.

Summaries are ridiculously hard. The only thing I find harder is titles.

I used to hate them, and then I realized I love doing them if I just amuse myself while inventing them. The sad thing is that few other people have been amused by them.

And I am beginning to suspect that they may actually be plot bunnies disguised as potential titles.

heeeeeeeee. Then wriiiiiiiiiiite them! You've got the title, so you already did the hard part!

Not that I know of, although it would make sense. It's not even just one story - there are a few, not even all the same fandom, that periodically get kudos and hits. It's very random.

'Under Glass' was damn nearly 'The Seventh Dwarf' just because I wanted to post it, and I wasn't going to wait just because I didn't have a title. I'm not all that happy with 'it is most mad and moonly', but I was already super-late for a fest, so I just went with it.

It's not so much that they're actual bunnies as sort of... proto-bunnies. 'As if you could kill time without injuring eternity' is pretty definitely Doctor Who or Torchwood, although I'm not sure what it's about. 'Hope and Candlewax' is about a fragile, tenuous, and probably emotional thing - most likely a relationship, but one that's very new and easily crushed. I just don't know who. I thought 'Destiny Was Never Up To Me (And It’s Not My Fault)' was a Merlin story, but then I realised it was Gwen.

Although 'Down To The Bone and Burn The Rest' is already eating my braaaiin. Good thing I don't believe in needing more than tentative grasp of canon based mostly on reading a lot of fic to write a story. Yay, AUs! Captain America film/comic/fanon fusion here I come! Wheeee!
