The Enterprise's arboretum, tucked out of the way on a lower deck but always open to anyone who wanted to come and relax, really was amazing, particularly when contrasted with the sleek technology all around.
For anyone homesick for grass and trees, stepping in through the doors was almost like stepping into a little forest grove on Earth, minus the sounds of birdsong and wind. For anyone stressed or restless, the carefully tended blossoms from dozens of worlds could usually be counted on to ease the mind. For any botanists or gardeners on board, it was ideal to cultivate specimens in a natural setting. And for anyone looking for a nice picnic spot, there wasn't anywhere better on the ship.
"Under that tree looks good," said Chris to George, pointing to what looked like a plum tree, surrounded by a likely-looking patch of emerald-green grass.
