History outside of the US exists?

I saw 300 last week and I love it. I've been reading reviews on it and Bob actually sent me a link to one where people were angry about it. Even though I loved the movie, I don't really disagree with something one person said. He said, "It is unfortunate that very few curriculums in the US cover world history and it is very easy to misdirect the ( Read more... )

Oh man, I agree with Ella. I totally had him in 7th grade too, as my homeroom teacher. SUCH A CREEP.

I remember studying Greek/Roman mythology in 6th grade but it was an advanced English class or something.
After that I can't remember being taught anything, I just picked up on a lot because I was wicked interested in it. But I'm pretty sure they stopped covering it in school....

One time I burned my hand in Mrs. Ryan's FACS class because the Salem School District is too cheap to buy new potholders and mine had a hold inside of it. So I had to go to the nurse and was late to Mr. Tuccolo's class - He was so concerned and just happened to have a ALOE PLANT in the window! So he cut a pieced of it off and squeezed it onto my hand and rubbed it in. HAHA! What a sketchball!

There wasn't a lot of world history covered for me either, which sucks, because I love history. Historical epics like 300 and Gladiator are some of my favorite movies, even though they're never like totally accurate. It's just interesting as shit to learn about past people and cultures and wars and stuff. That's why when you asked me about 300 I wrote you a book back explaining it, because since I heard about it I've been reading about it and stuff. It's a pretty friggin cool story.

I would've rather learned about world history than the civil war like 5 times! Haha. Yeah, that's why I was like, "What is 300 about?" because Salem High School (and other high school apparently) want to bore us to death about things we've learned for like 4 years in a row.

I want to go see 300 at IMAX!!!

Yeah I think I wanna go see it at IMAX too. I kinda didn't wanna spend another 13 bucks to go see it, but the more I think about the movie, the more I wanna see it again. And I heard it was amazing at the IMAX too. Maybe we can go sometime this weekend? We might have to watch Charlie's dog overnight on Friday, but I don't know what else is up the rest of the weekend.

Friday we're not doing anything. (I love that dog!) Saturday I'm supposed to hang out with Matt and Pat, but I'm not sure if that's still a go, I'll find out. Sunday Gary has a football meeting at 1, but I think that's it. My friend John really wants to see it at the IMAX too and he'll be at the meeting, maybe Sunday?

School curriculums are based off of state and federal standards in learning. At this point world history beyond middle school is pretty much an elective and that's only if you're lucky to goto a school which offers them, so there you go

So basically, no one thinks kids should learn about the world. Every one I've talked to so far doesn't remember learning any world history at all except for like a week in 7th grade. And then absolutely nothing in high school. Does this mean Salem High School is lazy? Did you have world history in your high school?
