Yesterday and a Public Option

Sep 09, 2009 10:29

Yesterday ended up being an amazing day; I loved everything about it. Michael and I set out on a mission to get him a prepaid SIM card to start him out here in Germany. The rates are really cheap and the great thing about Germany is you never get charged for incoming calls, texts, pictures messages, etc., so the minutes, etc. (in this case, though, it's the account balance) are reserved for you to actively make use of, which is nice. After that we proceeded to Grimmelshausen Buchhandlung to browse the shelves in search of the German book he will be needing for his German course that begins at the end of the month. It turns out they no longer had it in, so they ordered it, and thankfully it comes in today, so he can work on some German in the meantime. The German course that is now taking place is using that very same book. Hence, the first third of it will be skipped when he starts the higher-level course. Now he has quite a few activities he can do. :)

Kaufhaus Joh is always a nice department store to visit. They had a fair selection of decent clothing, but none of which I would actually consider buying due to exaggerated pricing. We got Michael patches for his awesome pair of gray jeans that he ran holes into when he fell one night. That's not so awesome, but at least the hole is not too noticeable. We bought them at Kaufhaus des Westens (KaDeWe, pronounced caw-day-vay) for €14 when we were in Berlin last month!!! Sooo cheap. They had this incredible sale going on. Sadly, when we went back the next day to look for a pair for me, there were none of those left...in my size, at least. *Sighs*

We proceeded to peruse the sports section, shortly before which I found these awesome tea glasses on sale for €4.95 for a set of 2. I snatched up three sets total, two of which I wanted to buy for my grandparents. Their tea glasses are becoming outdated and they have already had to replace a few of the glasses that sit inside the metal holder (I cannot think of the correct expression for that at the moment, so bear with me).

Christian invited us over to his place in Königstein-Falkenstein. Or just Falkenstein. Whatever. Apparently, Falkensteiners and Königsteiners like to think of themselves as "separate but equal", even though Falkenstein is an area of Königstein. But in any case, we walked through the woods. The Taunus has absolutely AMAZING greenery, like you would not believe. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Christian showed us around Falkenstein and we ended up going on a small hike to some old ruin of an antique fortress. That was pretty rad because we had an excellent view of Frankfurt am Main's skyline. Breathtaking, I tell you. :] Michael and I met Christian's mom Mary from Louisiana, and she was really nice. We saw her maybe a whole five seconds, but immediately she made Christian offer us something to drink and eat. He said he hadn't had visitors over in the longest time, so I am sure his mom was pleased that he brought some friends over. He has two younger brothers and one younger sister. Big family. :)

So we watched Stand By Me. I feel like that movie was watched at just the right time. I needed that movie for some reason. I cannot explain it. It was just nice. Thanks, movie, for bringing the expressions "gimme some skin" and "conniption fit" back into my life. They have been resaved to my internal memory and will furthermore be used frequently in the near future. Word. Well, expression. Ha.

And just in case you're wondering where the "A Public Option" part of my heading comes in, watch the following video:
We Can't Afford to Wait

I say PUBLIC OPTION...NOW, not later! We cannot wait for real health care reform in America. We need it NOW!!! Call Congress at (202) 224-3121 and let them know you want a public option.
