Yeah, I knew weddings were expensive, but for some reason I had thought it would be half as much to just rent a place for a half an hour with a few people in it, know what I mean?
Ah yes, your definition of "full package" makes sense to me. I couldn't figure it out, but mentioning organist and stuff makes sense.
I'm sure J's dad could call them, maybe I'll have him do that if the churches really say no way, but I haven't actually asked the ministers themselves yet, so maybe he won't have to. Grace is the church between ministers, so I won't even be able to ask them until after I should have a church booked. If we really want to go with Grace, we'll have to take a risk.
The quilting class is at TL Kennedy on Wednesday nights. We're not sure if we can even get in though, since it starts this wed. If we can't do that one, hopefully we'll find a similarly good one in another couple of months...it'll be way fun to take a class with my sister! I've never done that before =).
Thanks for breaking that down for me. Makes more sense now. I think we're probably going to try for a string trio or something instead of an organist, but we'll have to see on that. I think the etiquette issue has more to do with the fact that you're coming into someone else's church and expecting to use it for the ceremony, the least you could do is involve the minister - but to come into the church and take it over without involving the people that actually work there at all...meh...I can see where they're coming from.
J's dad's church is about 45 minutes from Brampton, where we'd be doing the reception. It's a bit of a pain for out of town guests...and really, for in-town guests too =).
Yeah, I guess you're right, it's pretty rude to expect to be able to kick the minister out of his own church. And if it's the case that no one likes to do that, as I have come to expect now, it opens up another can of worms...my family will then expect that we get married in the church I grew up in (which my family still attends). That's okay, I guess, except that the layout isn't great for a wedding - it's movie-theatre-style setup, where there are very long pews in the middle, and short pews on either side. And I know, I don't have to do anything my family expects, since it's my wedding. It doesn't mean it'll make things any easier =P. But I'm sure you know all that, married person =).
That's what I was thinking (look at me, trying to make a positive out of everything), that everyone would get a look if we did it in my old church. However, I'd rather, if at all possible, get married in a cute older 1800s-esque church like the ones in downtown brampton. My church was built..hrm...in this century, anyway, probably in the 60s, maybe 70s. So it's a bit more "modern"-looking. Not my ideal, but if we have to, I guess I'll deal.
We're paying $300 to have a minister come to our ceremony location, so I imagine that once you subtract the mileage and add on the renting of the church itself, that's probably about right.
