I have been in a post-HP book slump since I finished DH. I was talking to Randall about it this weekend and I actually got TEARY about it. Let me explain…

I am NOT one to go without reading. I am constantly in the middle of one or more books. Since finishing Deathly Hallows I have not picked up one book. I have found myself spending ample time on Myspace, watching mindless television, reading magazines, and basically bumming around intellectually. While this could be attributed to the fact that it is Summer, I have another theory...

Subconsciously, I believe I saw starting another book as saying the final goodbye to the Harry Potter series, and I wasn't ready. I realized yesterday that I had been putting off starting another book because I thought if I never read another book again then the last book I read would always be Harry Potter. Ridiculous (and completely rational), huh?

Because Randall is a kind soul, he said he didn't think I was crazy and he said he understood that the books meant a lot to me. Then he gave me this line of pure friendship gold, "Leslie, you didn't quit Harry Potter, Harry Potter quit you." (Did I mention I LOVE him?) After that I realized he was right and I placed all the HP on the shelf and headed to Target.

I picked up two books:

Twlight by Stephanie Meyer (I am almost finished with this one, loving it so far)

Special Topics in Calamity Physics by Marisha Pessl

books, hp
