Andy continues to have success performing as Johnny Karate. The triplets earn a certain clout among the preschool set when everyone finds out Johnny Karate is their "uncle." He also, after the success of the Unity Concert, discovers he has a talent for organizing musical events and, in this way, ends up with a side career in concert promotion. With the help of April, who handles the business end of things (with Ben's encouragement, she even takes night classes to get her MBA), and Tom, who handles the food, the Unity Concert becomes an annual regional music and food fest that attracts some pretty significant names. And lots of hipsters, which Ron could do without.
Ron legally adopts Diane's daughters. By the time they're in junior high they are making small wooden trinkets that they sell at the Farmer's Market and earning money tutoring their male classmates who struggle in woodworking class. Although he has enough wealth that his family will be set for life, it pleases him to know that his kids have the skills and business sense to make their own way. As much as he loves his family life, he takes one week each year to go off the grid and be alone, without the distraction of other humans. He takes solo parenting duties for the same amount of time each year so Diane has time to do the same, although she takes her trip with friends.
