I'm picking away at Trying again. Ugh, Phoebe and Gerald are so boring let me get back to THE DREAM TEAM. This chapter really shouldn't be that long, but I'm taking a damn long time with it

I mean, okay I am writing that story with Trying, but I like to think that it's different! It's less "will they - won't they" and more "HOLY SHIT GUNS".
HA! fandom is like... a breeding ground for Highschool AUs. They pretty much make up 95% of the fic and GOD I HATE HIGH SCHOOL FIC. I really don't see Arnold/Helga as a viable possibility until they're at least like... 23. They've got a lot of shit to sort through in their lives first. And I've pretty much accepted the idea that they separate for awhile and find one another at a future point - usually in a rather unexpected way. I just can't BUY them being forever and ever in love in High School.
Ugh, Helga as a victim = NO. Although, there was a fic that did sort of... touch upon sexual abuse and was actually kind of good? But that was YEARS ago.

From what I remember - Helga is assigned to work on a project with some weird kid who kind of freaks her out so she gets Arnold to do the project with them even though he's not even in the same class and the kid's dad is possibly sexually abusive? It's actually pretty good (though unfinished) despite my shitty ass summary.

Well, with Trying, I get that Arnold does know about Helga's feelings and maybe he feels something for her, but the plot itself brings out those issues between them rather than the UNREQUITED LOVE OR IS IT? factor be the only thing in the story. And YES, LOTS OF GUNS. XD
Yeah, I don't mind the idea that Arnold and the cast move onto high school, but it's so boring when nobody adds anything different to the plot. Yes, they're in high school, but it'd be nice to see them do other things that aren't related to dances or gossip/rumors or the likes of that. (Also, I was more than happy to leave high school so the last thing I wanna do is read about it. xD;)

The story I read was...a long time ago, when I was fourteen/fifteen-ish? I don't think I'd ever be able to find it now, but basically Helga was changed into this abused, married woman who saw this dying butterfly as a metaphor of what she'd turned into? Then she was brutally murdered by her husband in the beginning of the story. :/
