Oh, forgot to post this earlier.
I almost hit a guy today on my way home from work... or did hit him. I had just took off from a red light, it was four lanes, and I was in the left lane and there was a car beside me in the right lane traveling the same direction (trying to explain this in a simple way, but I think I'm just being confusing). This guy was in the middle of the left and right lane. He was a black guy, in a black t-shirt, black jogging pants, and carrying a big black army like duffel bag. There were no street lights. I couldn't see him. I saw him at the last minute and swerved into the center turning lane to avoid him. The guy in the lane beside me had to swerve into a gas station driveway. I know I at least hit the guy's bag, because it flew out of his hand into the street. He was holding his arm, which makes me think I may have hit his arm with the side mirror. I was only going about five miles an hour, ten at the most. I feel so bad, but why was he in the middle of the road? I jumped out of the car and, almost in tears, asked if he was okay. "Oh my god, I didn't see you! Are you alright!?" I was freaked out.
He just started screaming at me, lots of profanity. "You need to watch where you are going ! You don't own the effen road!" He said a lot more that I couldn't understand, but I'm pretty sure he was drunk, he had trouble walking straight and was muttering and sluing his words.
The guy in the other car got out and asked too, if the man was okay, and all he got was another string of profanity. So I asked, "Are you okay sir, do you need me to call 911 or an ambulance?!"
He just told me to "Shut the eff up!", and ran behind the gas station.
The guy in the other car looked at me and asked, "I guess he is okay, he seems okay." I just nodded. Then he said, "Are you okay?" I nodded again, and told him I thought I was okay, just freaked. So he said "It's okay, the guy is fine he ran off. I'm gonna go."
It took me a moment before I could actually drive away. I was very shaky. By this time the guy I hit was long out of sight, he stumbled away down the road. I was so shook up I just went ahead and came home. Looking back on it, I think I should have called the cops. What if I did hit that man, and he just didn't feel it because of being drunk? I am so paranoid, and will be watching the news for the next few weeks. Should I call the cops now? I mean, it's considered a hit and run at this point right? If I did hit him, I'm not sure if he was holding his arm because the mirror hit him, or if it hurt his arm when the bag was jerked away. Wow, this is a lot of rambling. I think I am still a bit shook up. I'm so scared that I hurt him.
