Here we go: GIP semester started a month ago, and we are all very excited about extracurricular activities we are about to organise by ourselves. [and here the remark follows: Student Body Council, being in theory a group of student activists who work on the voluntary basis to make the academic, cultural, and dormitory life at least bearable, technically has no decision-making power, and is highly dependent on the reactionary, stagnant, and stubborn will of the school office]. Open disagreement with the actual power in a conservative Korean Institute is highly UN-desirable, so students are literally forced to act clandestine.
Thanks God social nets exist! Trivial Facebook became the platform not only for information exchange, but also for some especially irritated individuals to post their anger relieving comments.
Initiatives of the month:
- "In COMMUNE use" project: belongings of GIP alumni are transferred into common use of current students
- FB-based membership-exclusive GIP page: main purpose is to highlight the absurdity of particular situations and reactions of people involved into the GIP melting pot.
- Moving images: weekly screening of films designed to influence the social and political stance of individuals with thought-provoking plots and bold messages.
- GIP asylum: providing the sleeping place for those in need, while maintaining this type of social service unknown to the faculty or the office staff.
Do we need to confront the system , that claims to promote social goods (such as Peace education)? We have to. We have to do it as long as the system keeps running, and is run by narrow-minded ass-holes. [Excuse me for profanity]
