So, where was I? Oh yes, I was just about to explain that I didn't spend all of my days just adding people to my LJ list for the first quarter of the year. I also took a bigger step in the way of improvement. What was this new addition, you might ask? Quite simply it was talking on the phone with someone who I had never met with or spoke to before in my life for more than five minutes. Again, you might be puzzled as to how a person of my age had not yet been able to tackle such an easy step, but I assure you it was another uphill battle for me. You see, ever since I was a wee Justin I've always had an aversion to being on the phone. Not the listening part, oh no….that was always easy. It was the talking part that always got to me. It always seems like I had to reach for words, and even when they came naturally it was still hard to actually speak them. To this day I still have no idea why it was like this for me.
I have been getting better, but it is still a work in progress. I'm still having my awkward moments more often than I would like.
Getting back to the point: On February 7th [yes, I have a thing for exact dates…Theresa knows this ;)] I had my first conversation with Sandi. I remember how nervous I was just not to screw up or sound like a complete idiot (which is unavoidable for me most of the time). Looking back on it now though, I can see that my nervousness was 100% unnecessary, but hindsight is always 20/20. Even with all my careful steps though, I still managed to almost choke to death on the phone with her. During this particular interaction though, she was the one who did most of the talking (not saying that as a bad thing at all), as I was still opening up to the idea of actually talking on the phone. Regardless of all that though, the lengthy conversations we had that day were all great and memorable. During my last entry I called this "a bit of another step towards my ultimate goal", but remembering it now, I realize that it was a much bigger step than I originally gave it credit for.
[to be continued…]
Oh, and an update on this supposed "job" will be posted tomorrow as well.
