DAMN IT!!! Bernier in 2007 = Luongo in 1999?

[I know anyone won't bother to read this, comment nor even care, but whatever.]

2006 Lewiston Maineiacs = 1999 Acadie-Bathurst Titans?

Well, I have this feeling the the Maineiacs will be eliminated. They are already down 2-0 and the 1st period isn't over yet. I seriously want to cry now.

They are starting to remind me of the 1999 Acadie-Bathurst Titans. Why?

Well, the 1999 Titans team may be long before many of your time, but I remember how they had won the Presidents Cup, and Roberto Luongo had 16 wins in the post season entering the Memorial Cup. Also on that team were François Beauchemin (now w/ the Ducks), Jonathan Girard (ex-Bruins player who recently retired), Ryan Flinn (ex-Kings tough guy), Danny Groulx (Hamilton Bulldogs player), other AHLers Ramzi Abid & Frederic Cloutier, and even Jules-Edy Laroque (Georges Laroque's little brother) and of course Eric Betournay (the Q player I ever contacted via e-mail) were all on this team.

By the time the Titans got to the Memorial Cup, they CHOKED!!! They lost all 3 games throughout the series and were the first team to be eliminated. They didn't lose by one goal. They got their asses handed to them big time.

Lewiston on the other hand... Jonathan Bernier came into this tournament w/ 16 wins in the post season, the first time since Robert Luongo.* Unlike the Titans, Lewiston did better during the Memorial Cup, winning their first game. Ever since Team Captain Marc-André Cliche got injured, the team has pretty much gone down, letting the Giants and Whalers dominate them. At least those last 2 games have been decided by one goal instead of multiples. Had it not been for Bernier, they would've been done by now, heading home empty handed.

So why am I comparing Luongo in 1999 and Bernier in 2007? Well, they both had 16 wins and the Presidents Cup when they entered the Memorial Cup. You would think both player would've been brought their teams to the semi-finals or perhaps the finals. As mentioned before, Luongo & the Titans were swept in Ottawa 8 years ago. Bernier and the Maineiacs are on the verge of elmination, and at this point things are looking bleak for Lewiston. Thus, the 16 Post Season wins by the Q goalies entering the Memorial Cup must be a curse!

I don't remember how strong the goaltending was in 1999 or if the Titans offense and/or defense were stronger than goaltending. For Lewiston, goaltending has been strong while both offense and defense have been weak. Ever since the game against Medicine Hat, they have only scored 1 goal per game.

You're prolly wondering why I've joined the Maineiacs bandwagon all of a sudden since last season it was all about Moncton Wildcats. Well, mind you I have so much bias when it comes to my Kings boys. That includes prospects in the Kings' system. Ever since the Kings drafted Bernier last season while they acquired Cliche from NY Rangers for Sean Avery, the Maineiacs have grown into me more. I shouldn't be too bitter if the Whalers indeed win because Ryan MacGinnis of the Whalers is Kings property too. However, I haven't been keeping up w/ the O as much as I used to.

[Bernier is hurt... Grrrrrrreat! That's it! Lewiston is so screwed!!! Fuck!]

I know many of you won't really get this, but I needed to rant and put this in words. I think Lewiston has already been jinxed and badly cursed. I wish Lewiston all the best the rest of the way and good luck!

Well, I need to pack now. I'll be leaving for Scotsdale first thing in the morning. Nommie and the Riverside Turkey Shooters will be taking part of the Memorial Day Tournament. They'll be playing at the ice rinks where the Phoenix Coyotes and Phoenix Roadrunners play. I'll be back Monday evening. Bettie will be coming along w/ me as well since I'll likely need the internet plus I'll be swamped w/ lots of homework. I dunno how often I'll be able to go online, but I may not be able to read and/or comment for the next few days.

Alrighty, enjoy the rest of the Memorial Cup and have a wonderful night.

Edit: 5-1 Plymouth Whalers win... RIP 2006-07 Lewiston Maineiacs. So long and goodbye Lewiston! Thanx for the wonderful season. To Baby Berns & Captain Cliche: Please feel better soon. You guys better be 100% better by July for the Kings Rookie Camp! I can't wait to see you! Try not to sneek out -k-. ;)
