Rhode Island School of Design vs. California College of Arts

I really need to let this out...

Anyways, this past year I went back to school to get my Graphics Certification so that I can get a job as a graphic designer and learn more about graphic design. I still have a long ways to go before I get my Graphics cert., but hopefully the year after next or sooner I'll be done.

After I get my Graphics Cert, I plan on going to graduate school where I plan on getting my MFA in graphic design. There are 2 schools I want to go to so badly...

One is California College of Arts in San Francisco & the other is Rhode Island School of Design. From what Jerry told me, both schools are highly respected and both have excellent programs in design/graphic design. Here's how I see both schools.

How I see it school and lifestylewise...

CCA:

Plus
*I have a better chance of getting in since they accept 40% of their applicants in the Design Department.
*I can get my own studio on campus.
*The school is expanding...
*I have family & close friends that live in San Francisco and near by (including Liza & kaorirose).
*I really like San Francisco a lot.
*Since I have an extensive fine arts background and some experience in graphic design, hopefully I shouldn't be too lost when I start.
*I can take other clases outside the design department. In fact, I'd love to take some courses in photography, painting, and visual criticism while working on my grad studies.
*Have better access to healthy food places.
*Hopefully I can lose so much weight.
*I can be more independent.

Minus
-I'll be away from soCal, especially my family, friends, and the L.A. Kings.
-I won't be able to drive around, unless I'm forced to be brave.
-There's a good chance I may get lost in SF, unless I get help or I figure my way around w/o getting confused.
-SF and nearby are hella expensive.
-I'll have to kick the bad public behavior habits such as talking on my phone at a restaurant.

RISD:

Plus
*I'll be far away as possible from my family which I don't mind at all. Afterall, it's time for my mom to let go of me and let me live almost completely on my own.
*Here's a hockey team there where I can get my hockey fixins when needed (Providence Bruins of the AHL)
*It's one of the top Art universities in the nation, and Jerry told me that this school is highly respected.
*I'm closer to NYC, Boston, ect. than where I'm at right now.
*I've always wanted to live in the east coast.
*No offense or anything, but California is screwed up w/ the govt. and everything... It's been a mess right now...
*I need a change or scenery.

Minus
-I'll be away from soCal, especially my family, friends, and the L.A. Kings.
-It may be hard to find friends, but I should easily make friends there.
-Freezing cold winters & me missing the warm Cali weather.
-It'll be difficult starting over and trying to live my life almost completely on my own, but I can do it!
-Getting in may be so tough for me.

I might have a good chance of getting into either one of these schools, but at the same time I'm worried about my grades as an Undergrad. I had a 3.0 GPA at UCR, but I've had some C's in my non-art classes. I hear grad schools will not accept anyone that has C's in any of their classes. I really hope it's a myth or else I'm fucking screwed. :(

Other schools I have in mind just if case either one of these schools don't work out: Art Center, Otis College of Art and Design and The Academy Of Arts.

Of these 2: I rather go to RISD, but I hear a calling from CCA. I still have a long ways before I consider filling out my application and putting my portfolio together, but I rather put a lot of thoughts on both these schools. Sometime next year I'd love to go on campus tours on both these schools.

If under any circumstances I can't get into grad school, I'd love to get a second BA in Business. I dunno which school aside from UCR has an excellent Business Program. Since I'll be on the cheap side, I rather go to Cal State Northridge, Long Beach State, or any excellent Cal State University, but I dunno if Cal States allow you to work on a 2nd degree... Hopefully I can get my 2nd BA in Business at an excent school and hopefully it's not too difficult. If I have time and room on my schedule, I'd like to take a business class or 2 at PCC to test the waters... We'll see.

Either way, please wish me lots of luck! I really need it! :D

Well, that's all I have to say. Till then... please fill out the survey thingie, since I have a lot of new faces on my friends list. Even if you've been friended for a longtime, please do take the time to do the survey. Much greatly appreciate it and the better chance I have of keeping you on my friends list.

Till then, have a wonderful night! :D
