Random Afternoon Musings

Andy and I celebrated our one year anniversary on Monday. We went to the Millenium Hotel downtown. They have a restaurant on the top floor that rotates so that you get a 360 degree view of downtown St. Louis. It was a spectacular view and a nice way to celebrate our anniversary.

I like it when my boyfriend calls me at 3:30 in the morning just to tell me he can't sleep. I think it's cute. I don't like it when my grandmother calls the house before 7am to inform my parents that a delivery guy has arrived three hours early so they both need to get to work.

I'm reading War and Peace and enjoying it immensely. It's exactly the kind of book I can get lost in: a dramatic historical romance. The characters also speak a lot of French. I didn't know the Russian aristocracy was once so immersed in the French language/culture. This means that I can add another European monarchy to my list of countries that have been dominated at one time by the French language thus further proving my point that French is superior to all other languages. The Russians in War and Peace would agree. Even though they're getting beaten by Napoleon, they're still in awe of him and France while they poke fun at both the language and the ineptitude of their allies: the Germans and the Austrians.

I did my brother's French homework last night and it was a lot of fun.

My brother recently finished The Communist Manifesto for class. A couple teachers saw what he was reading and confiscated the book and sent him to the principle for reading "terrorist literature." I can't even begin to say what's wrong with this. Instead of ranting, I'll just express my frustration by saying, "GAH!" My mom's friend thinks that he should bring the Koran to school and see what happens. An Islamic Communist?! Horror of horrors!

My favorite Olympic event is tonight: Ladies Figure Skating: free-skate. Sasha Cohen (who skated beautifully in St. Louis last month) has a tiny lead over the Russian after Tuesday's short program. I hope she can pull off a good performance tonight to win a gold medal. I'm also rooting for Kimmie Meissner because she is young, is cute, skates well, and has my name.

My brother's band  is playing a gig tomorrow night. I'm looking forward to seeing him play cause I haven't heard them since this summer. Andy's band is playing at Mississippi Nights on March 17 and everyone should attend.

Mardi Gras! I guess all of the major debauchery occurs this Saturday. I'm going. Who else? Call me or leave a comment or message telling me that you want to come.

Et ça, c’est tout!
