Aahh...you ask questions I'm very familiar with. Sometimes I myself wonder what the point of all of this is. Someone once told me that my eyes reflected someone, "lost in a world you wish you could appreciate." I guess in many ways this is still true. I can't understand many things in this world around us. Many things I see anger, dishearten, and downright depress me. There are times when I also have thought it might be easier to end my existence here. Lord knows it would have been easier. I don't think like that anymore. Still, though, I believe this world is headed for disaster, and I think there are dark times coming. So that begs the question..."Why do you bother, Jeremy? What is the point of your struggle? Why do you keep going? Why ( ... )

I Timothy 6:10 is your first clue. Remember, though, roots only serve to feed plants. Seeds are where the plants come from. "What's the seed, then?" you'll ask. Ezekiel 28:11-19 will tell you. Pay close attention to verse 17.

You just said something I used to think about on a constant basis. The difference is, you put it into words that I never could ( ... )

And here we see a great example of the eloquently expressed "wisdom of man." I note in particular the deification of the "Self" (with a capital S). The two ideas presented in these two responses could not be further apart. I propose to you that we all have too much "self-worth" (Matthew 23:12;Proverbs 13:10; Proverbs 29:23; Ezekiel 16:49; I John 2:16; Mark 7:20-23; etc...) and that, as I said earlier, that's the problem (Ezekiel 28:17).

It has been my experience in the English language that capitalizing a noun is an attempt to make a proper noun, not a deity. In this case, I think the author capitalized "self" in order to make sure we all knew he/she was referring to the specific concept often used in literary and philosophical studies to refer to one's person, personality, insecurities, and set of principles as a complete entity seperate from and (in some ways) in opposition to the outside world and influences. I know this because I have a pretty good idea of who made the comment to which you are referring ( ... )

I've got a ton of things to say in reply to your post. It'll take a while to put it all together though. Perhaps my mistake last time was not having enough time to make a fully explanatory post. To make the long story short, I'll just say that I'm not trying to cause any hard feelings or belittle anyone. I am, however, concerned about the wisdom of the varying points-of-view. Like I said, I'll post a lot more on this later. For now, I want to say that I'm happy to have the chance to talk about all of this. I welcome the other authors to join in. I'd like it to be a discussion, not an argument. When all is said and done, I hope we come away from this closer than we've been before ( ... )

Realizing that your own mistakes that hurt others were indeed mistakes and not deliberate is a key thing. It's a lot easier to forgive others for their mistakes when you understand that. It's a lot easier to forgive others when you've learned how to forgive yourself, and have come to understand that no matter how bad you've messed up, it's not unforgivable. It's perspective that makes the difference, and that perspective has to start within yourself ( ... )

So, do I think you're totally wrong in your concepts of how to live one's life and how to think every thought? No. You're probably on to something bigger than I am. Then again, perhaps when Judgment Day arrives, you'll find that you were the fool who followed the wrong path, after all, and that you should have tried harder to see the forest around all the trees. The point is, no one on earth actually KNOWS ( ... )

Again, I will make a longer post to reply in a bit. First, let me say this: My friend asked for an answer. I gave him one. You gave him another that I perceive to be in opposition to the answer I gave. My reaction was to point out the difference. Did I say you weren't heartfelt or caring? Did I say you didn't have positive intentions? No. I believe you were and had all those things. The problem is I see your answer leading my friend down the wrong path. As I said before, if my reply hurt you... it was not my intent. I'm trying to protect someone ( ... )
