I saw a blue heron today, in the grass behind the bus depot. It was strange, seeing the large bird away from water, and behind a busy street, like that. What was stranger was how unafraid it seemed. It showed no signs of alarm until I was only about five feet away ( Read more... )

When I worked at a trout farm back when I was 16, or whatever age I was that summer, I ended up shooting at one of those birds because it was raiding us. I missed, though...and hey! *cries* I'm not on your friends list.

Err...yeah. I was sorting through my LJ friends list and removing the names of those who I had set as friends, but who didn't have me, when I noticed that you made the delete list. Now I know what happened, lol.

I'm told there may be them in Ontario too. I've never seen one in BC. But we hae Whiskey Jacks, so it's all good.

I've seen a heron when I was fishing with my dad. Also have seen plenty of loons. I still love the sound of their call on a nice morning or in the late evening, so many good memories attatched to it

Loons are beautiful, and their cry is amazing. There's nothing else that sounds quite like it.

Not many birds like being petted. We just let them eat from our hands.
