I'm still alive. Wewt.

I saw a blue heron today, in the grass behind the bus depot. It was strange, seeing the large bird away from water, and behind a busy street, like that. What was stranger was how unafraid it seemed. It showed no signs of alarm until I was only about five feet away.

They remind me of a smaller, gray crane. Though they move a little more gracefully than those large birds. They have the same long neck, the same upright body, but markedly different size and colouring. Herons are large, but cranes are huge. It's hard to imagine either flying well.

Herons are beautiful birds for those who haven't seen one. I used to be able to watch them out my kitchen window every so often. We had a pond and one would show up every spring to eat the goldfish. Eventually we put up a screen to cover the water until the lilies were big enough to shield the fish.

If you've never seen a bird swallow a fish nearly the size of it's head, well, it's almost as odd as the herons are beautiful.

That was, oddly enough, one of the most striking moments in my life recently. That and the little yellow snapdragons I found growing near the path we were on. I'm in a strange fall mood today. It's like the newness of spring, but appreciated more with the threat of winter.

Yes, winter is most definitely a threat, I'm still leery about cold temperatures, especially with all the walking to and from things I've been doing lately.

Other than that, I’ve discovered the joys of dancing. To be honest, I didn’t believe there were any joys in dancing. Now, after going out twice to swing lessons, I love it. The music, and the people, and the way the dance feels, it’s all incredible.

The rest is just school, Arnis, and some more school. Life is going on as it has a way of doing. I did spend four hours one night driving around with a security crew for a story. It was a very boring four hours, but I did get the story out of it.

Although, in the end I guess there’s a story in everything. I mean hell, I just wrote about seeing a bird.
