the librarian's guide to graphic novels

Oct 16, 2011 14:40

Fixed my conference paper topic so that it's on LGBTQ representation in graphic novels, how to integrate such material into the collection, and how to deal with challenges.  (HINT:  don't automatically put all graphic novels in the YA and Juvenile sections; not all picture books are for kids.  Do your research, catalogers.)

Also, I have seen for myself a future in which I publish guidebooks to multiculturalism in graphic novels.  This is disturbing.  Not the material, but that I think I really would enjoy writing those.  And academic librarians are typically required to publish, even technical librarians...

Gonna ask my parents for The Librarian's Guide to Graphic Novels for Adults for Christmas, because they keep bugging me for a list and because I've used it now on two different projects.  Seems like a worthwhile investment to me.  However, I think I'll leave out Libraries, Erotica, and Pornography and Sex and Sensibility--they might not fully understand why I want those.

Slightly less good--had to call in sick for work last night because of an IBS flareup.  Ugh.  First sick day at this job, which I am not thrilled about.
