My academic adviser just told me that I'll have a "diverse set of skills" when I graduate, in reply to the e-mail informing him that I want to take advanced cataloging and libraries, lit, and young adults next semester. He added that it will give me good flexibility when looking for a professional position; my personal interpretation (not of his intention, just of the words) is that I lack focus. Because I do. I really, really do.
Still banking of cataloging being what gets me a professional position with benefits after I graduate. Children and youth librarians--hell, regular reference librarians--are a dime a dozen. No one wants to catalog. Except me. I go into libraries and mentally re-categorize everything while I'm browsing.
