So. ^_^;
I gave up internet for the next month in order to get more work done--I keep procrastinating when it comes to my PA supplementary applications as well as job applications, among many other things. The only exception is LJ... I told James I wanted to complete this 30-day meme because I'm usually bad about sticking with stuff like this and he said it was fine. :p
Also had the brilliant idea to try observing Ramadan for a week DURING the whole no-internet thing, inspired by Aryan's girlfriend Salma (who is Muslim and actually does observe the religious holiday). It means... no eating or drinking while the sun is out. Ha. Also involves 'purifying yourself,' which means no cursing, no drinking (!!), no kissing (!!!)... um. Probably not going to observe the kissing thing haha, but will probably try to observe everything else. Trying to break myself of bad habits, such as eating while bored or procrastinating. And yes, I initially wanted to fast because I wanted to stop gaining weight and trigger weight loss, but I might as well take the opportunity to better myself as well, yes? :] Salma says the first two days are the hardest--well, here's day one! 9 more hours until I can eat. >_o Good thing I woke up 10 minutes ago hahaha :p
Game plan for today:
- clean bathroom
- iron (a billion shirts -_-;)
- FINISH applications for UCHSC & RRCC
- thank-you cards for LOR
- job apps!!!
Kind of the same as the last time I posted... lol. See, I have a problem!! Ok, back to meme catch-up!
Hm. I don't really have a best friend... the person closest to me other than my family is James, and he's my boyfriend... does he count? I think the 'best friend' should be an entity separate from the person you're romantically involved with and occupy a different part of your life; no one really 'fits the bill' so to speak. I have a few very close friends that I care about deeply, but they all have their respective 'best friends' so I don't consider them as such. I had 2 best friends before I moved away from Delaware, but never really filled that spot in afterward. And that was... what, 11 years ago? So they don't count (as wonderful as they are).
It probably has more to do with my trust issues than anyone else, though--I probably consider those few people 'best friends' but because of the fact that they have their own already I don't want to place that label on them. Pretty shallow of me, isn't it? "If you don't consider me yours, you're not mine!" But it is what it is, and I do not have one. :P I anticipate that this will cause issues if I ever assemble a bridal party... most girls can rattle off who they want for their maid of honor and bridesmaids, but I honestly have no clue. Maybe I should start getting closer to the girls in my life in anticipation for the event... lol. :]
So many moments to choose from! I'll pick an oldie but goodie... and nerdy. :]
I had eagerly anticipated Christmas because of the present I helped my mother buy for Joel--Final Fantasy VII and the players' guide. I saw the commercials on TV constantly, and the epic nature of the game had resounded within both of us. We were dying to play something that was different, and this 'new' type of story-telling game had us intrigued. When my mom asked me to help her find a present for him for Christmas, I knew exactly what to get and relished the idea of playing with him after he opened it.
My mom asked me to open my present first, and I figured I would get it out of the way so Joel could open his next. When I tore off the wrapping--what?? She bought the game for me--I was so surprised I couldn't speak. Joel was yelling in excitement, and my mom had a big grin on her face. Later she told me that she had initially intended to give it to Joel, but I was so excited about the present that she decided to give it to me instead.
We spent the rest of the day playing FFVII in my basement. :] I don't think I've ever had such a fun surprise for Christmas since then... and that was Christmas 1997 I believe ^_^ I wonder if my mom laments at the fact that I'm such a nerd... hahaha :]
I'm Roman Catholic... for the most part. I'm awful about going to church on a regular basis (bad Kris!) but when I do, I'm always happy to be there. I believe in the Holy Trinity (God, Jesus & Holy Spirit are all one), in the Immaculate Conception (very Catholic)... I have my doubts about transubstantiation (Communion wafer = body of Christ) but consider it a spiritual part of His Body when presented at Mass... I do believe the Pope has good intentions, but is not necessarily the representative of God on Earth.
I'm also pretty liberal, and some of my beliefs directly oppose those of the Church. I believe abortion should stay legal because of the medical complications that arise if done illegally--but am still pro-life in the idea that abortion shouldn't be used out of convenience, it should be used only in extreme cases of distress (life-threatening pregnancy to mother, incest, rape, etc.) I believe homosexual couples have the right to be MARRIED and not united civilly. I don't believe in abstaining from sex prior to marriage in the religious sense (but go for it if you want to have your first 'special experience' with your loved one).
I don't know, I like to think of God as someone that encourages love amongst His creations, and not someone that requires you to follow a list of rules to get into Heaven. I don't think He would be the type to prevent people from joining him in Heaven if they didn't necessarily believe in Him--as long as they lived a life full of kindness toward others, why should they be punished?
So I'm probably Roman Catholic only by the church I attend and what I was baptized and confirmed into... but it still brings me comfort to step back into the church and follow the rituals, so I still consider myself as such.
I'm going to retroactively date this meme to yesterday. I wore a white tank top with an overly large navy blue sweater over it that had short cap sleeves. The neck of the sweater was completely open, so it formed a large V down to my stomach and exposed the white tank top. I wore a dark jean skirt underneath the sweater, which peaked out an inch or two after the end of the sweater hem. (Mini skirt!) Finished the outfit with knee-length black slouch leather boots and a beaded necklace. Hooray fashion!
I have one biological sibling and two adopted-but-still-related siblings.
Joel was born in April 1986, so he's 18 months younger than I am. He's 5'11... tall for a Filipino guy. :] He currently lives in Boston since he's stationed out there with the Air Force, and has been out there for a year. (Three more to go!) He went to CU-Boulder, just like I did, and we lived together for 3 years in Boulder. He graduated with a degree in Economics. He's also a big nerd like me and loves videogames and anime. ^_^;
Joel is... interesting haha. He uses black inflections all the time and says dumb stuff like "ast" instead of "asked" but always locks his doors when driving around ghetto areas. ^_^; He loves listening to hip hop but still has his emo moments and listens to emo bands. He's really fun to hang out with, has a wicked sense of humor, and is really nice to people, but his insecurities have prevented him from dating anyone for most of his life. He still calls me all of the time for silly stuff, like thread counts on sheets or marinating vegetables on a grill (last Friday, actually haha). He can be really spoiled and selfish sometimes (very younger-sibling-ish), but he really loves and cares for my family and his friends, and is vocal about it. Both times I went to Boston I was jobless... he paid for everything we did together and didn't skimp on doing things because of it. ^_^; He's pretty miserly for the most part, but generous with the people he cares about. So yeah, I have an awesome brother and we get along really well! I'm very lucky. I miss seeing him as often as I used to, but since he's good about keeping in touch (I'm awful at it btw) I never miss him THAT much. ;]
My other two siblings are Arman (32) and Angela, or as we call her, Ging (31). They're my uncle's kids on my dad's side, so my first cousins... we adopted them in 1994 in order for them to come to the States for better opportunities. They both have high school degrees from CRHS in Delaware.
Arman ended up joining the Navy and was a medic... now I think he's in Oregon working as a CNA. He says he's applying for PA school and is taking classes right now, but we have a hard time telling when he's exaggerating. :-/ He just got one of his CNA co-workers pregnant... this is after a year of being in a relationship with a woman with three kids, which was after he was married to a girl he met overseas and moved to Oregon for in the first place. I was a bridesmaid at that wedding, by the way... =_=; Oh well. He kind of does his own thing and my mom tries to be there for him when she can... it's complicated...
Angela got pregnant with her boyfriend in the Philippines right after high school and my grandfather banned her from his house for a long time... it was a shame because she had been accepted to nursing school in the States. She ended up marrying her boyfriend and having another kid with him while enlisting with the Navy. He was an absolute jerk to her though, and physically abused her... his family took advantage of her financially as well. She finally managed to escape and divorce him, and ended up marrying this really nice guy named Geoff. They had a kid together and Geoff had another kid from his first marriage, so their family is kind of like the Brady Bunch. ^_^; They currently live in San Diego and both she & Geoff are acting PAs in the Navy.
Lots of family drama with the other two... @_@ Not as close to them as I am to Joel obviously, but I hope things turn out well for both of them.
That was quite the catch-up... now I have 8 hours until I can eat! Bwahaha ^_^
