How much do your kids see you drink?

I saw this article about drinking in front of kids this morning, which was timely because I was just discussing this with some friends a few days ago.

I don't have kids. But, I've never in my life NEEDED a drink, and I am leery of casual pseudoalcoholism. I think that's a surefire way to be at risk for developing the real thing. When you do that, you make it socially acceptable, and like it's nothing, and I think it's easy for that to morph into cocktails at 11 a.m. or a beer to get out of bed on. But maybe that's oversimplifying it, I don't know.

I agree, actually -- I am uncomfortable with people talking about needing a glass of wine, or needing a beer, or going to the bar after a hard day. Maybe it's me. I've even tried having a glass of wine or a beer after a hard day, and it doesn't help. A cold beer after a long, hot day at the barn? Absolutely! That's pleasant, not necessary.

I think kids are affected by how their parents talk about drinking, yes. We pick up vocabulary and verbal tics from our parents; concepts are the same, I think.
