So yesterday, I told
trimmje I might try to join her for NaBloPoMo - like NaNoWriMo, but easier. Just "make a blog post a day" for a month. Since I'm more apt to go a month without posting at all, this will be an interesting challenge for me.
I just officially signed up. *gulp!*
trimmje, I saw the prompts you linked -but honestly, I didn't care for many of them. So instead I made a weekly topic schedule of my own. Hopefully this will keep me writing without resorting to memes, or just gushing about how cute the baby boy is every. single. day. (No promises, though! ;p )
MMO Monday- Gaming updates
Too Cute Tuesday - Baby updates (Warning: may contain gushing)
Wild Things Wednesday - Pets updates
Thrown Together Thursday - Projects and crafts updates
Fiddle Friday - Music updates (fiddle progress or music I'm listening to)
Something Else Saturday - A time to highlight other blogs and sites I read
Super Random Sunday - Could be ANYTHING!
Ahh, goofy alliteration, how I treasure thee.
So, in keeping with the posted theme, it's
Fiddle Friday!
Normally I have fiddle lessons on Thursday, but due to schedule conflicts we met Tuesday this week instead. (Particularly fortunate, since I didn't know I was going to be sick Thursday.) It happens to be my fiddle instructor's birthday this week, so I looked up the sheet music to "Happy Birthday" thinking I might try to memorize it for her. As it turns out, "Happy Birthday" is super easy, so even though I suck at memorizing songs, I was able to handle it without much extra effort.
It does beg the question, though - Why do I suck at memorizing songs on fiddle, when I can memorize dialogue or numbers without any issue? I can generally learn to sing songs pretty quickly as well (despite the fact I can't sing well, I can memorize tune and lyrics.)
But on the fiddle? I get caught up in the fingering, lose the notes, forget the key signature and by the time I try to get those back on track? The rhythm is long, long gone.
Even with the super simple Happy Birthday, I had two false starts as my hands REALLY wanted to start on G (3rd finger on D string) instead of open D. No idea why.
So you can imagine my dismay when said instructor says she wants me to perform at a little recital of her students.
Yikes.
Recitals are for little kids, to show their skills, right? Gives their parernts a reason to coo, and to puff their chests out with pride for their adorable, precocious, musical prodigy. Not for adult students who don't need to show off how much slower their progress is compared said little kids. Right? Right?!... (She wasn't convinced.)
Beginner's Orange Blossom Special was taken, so, at her recommendation, I'll be doing one from the O'Connor book called "Gypsy Fantastic" that has a little bit of a Roma flavor (there's probably a whole blog post in the questionable appropriateness of that right there, but I'm letting it slide.). It happened to be this week's assignment so it's brand-new to me. No double-stops for me to trip over at least - both a blessing and a curse since I love double-stops but I suck at them.
Can I just say 'Yikes!' again?
