Part II >
Part III Jun walked briskly towards his apartment building, clutching a plastic bag in one hand while the other was buried inside the deep pocket of his jacket. He was shivering in the cold night. He caught his lower lip with his teeth and bit it slightly in frustration that he couldn’t get a hold of his boyfriend when he called his cell using a public phone. "Nino is probably still in the conference." he reminded himself. “I could try again tomorrow.” he added.
Regrettably, he couldn’t replace his phone right now. It was already midnight and the phone service won’t be open until tomorrow morning. He sighed ruefully, adding more steps to his walk in order to get to his apartment faster. "I hope Aiba is okay." he wished in his mind. His mood went up a bit at the prospect of seeing Aiba’s smiling face when he sees the food he has brought home for him. Subconsciously, his lips curved into a smile when his mind began imagining Aiba’s excited voice greeting him back. However, his smile stilled when the memories of Aiba using his magic to try and bring him food came back to him. In his haste to go out, he realized that he didn’t say anything to Aiba about not using his magic again.
It wasn’t that Jun didn’t want Aiba to freely use his own magic. He didn’t want to take away something that was his inherent trait. It's just that right now, his magic needs to be carefully nurtured. He concluded that Aiba’s magic is still in a fragile state after not being used for centuries. Therefore, it was logical to be prudent. Furthermore, the possibility that it might go awry is still there, especially with Aiba’s simple and carefree mind. Anything could go wrong if he didn’t monitor him carefully. In his mind, he hoped that right now, Aiba chose to sleep again rather than use his magic to find entertainment. Jun couldn’t dismiss the fear that Aiba could try something in his absence.
As the lift dinged and opened to his floor, he heard noises along the corridor that began to gain decibels as he got nearer to his apartment unit. The sounds he heard were like coming from a protest gathering mixed with some weird music as the background. His heart raced inside his chest as he quickened his steps, the bag full of food clutched tightly in his hand swayed dangerously. He began to feel worried that something bad was happening to Aiba.
He skidded to a halt as he arrived in front of his door panting. Just as he thought, a group of men and women who he recognized as his neighbours was gathered around the closed door and were making protesting noises. Some were knocking incessantly on the door but to no avail.
Jun stood frozen on his feet in shock and confusion. Dazedly, he found that the weird screeching music that he was hearing now was obviously coming from inside his own apartment, not from the protestors. Aiba! He screamed inside his head.
One of the men noticed Jun’s presence. Recognizing Jun as the owner of the said apartment, the man who Jun knew as Takayuki-san, rushed to Jun and began spewing his complaints. Inevitably, the others crowded in on him too. Jun couldn’t really pick up what they were saying since they were all talking loudly and at the same time. However, he gathered that they were entirely annoyed by the loud noise coming from his apartment that had disturbed them in their sleep. It was justified since Jun was having the same sort of feeling right now too. Aiba, what are you doing? Now he regretted leaving Aiba to his own devices.
Quickly, he went towards his door, his hand fishing the key out of his pocket quickly. With a loud click, the door swung open and the sound of music rushed out from the inside like a storm, hitting their ear drums in a pulsating manner. They had to cover their ears to prevent them from tearing off of their head.
Jun rushed inside, nearly stumbling at the genkan. A few heads with hands covering their ears on each side poked in in curiosity. Thankfully for Jun, they didn’t come inside. They’d only be crowding his already muddled mind.
Jun went speechless when he saw what was in front of him. With a thud, his purchases were dropped unceremoniously onto the floor.
It was like a concert inside his apartment, a bizarre concert.
There were more than twenty male and female dancers dressed in outrageously fancy and sparkling dresses. It was complete with musicians playing various musical instruments and they were situated behind the dancers. They were squeezing themselves together in the cramped living room while the dancers danced happily and noisily, twirling their dresses with their hands up in the air with weird light shining onto them.
And there he saw Aiba. That precious puppy who Jun wanted to put a lease on so he could teach him how to behave (but of course, he won’t really do that to Aiba) was seen at the epicentre of them all, dancing in abandon while screaming “Yeah, yeah!” at the top of his lungs.
Jun looked back and silently felt relieved that none of his neighbours were coming inside, otherwise, he didn’t know how to explain this bizarreness to them.
The loud thump of the music made Jun dizzy but he needed to stop this absurdity immediately. After taking a deep breath, he moved forward to get to Aiba who still haven’t spotted Jun’s presence. He waded through the dancers who were now noticing him and began to rush towards him, bumping and grinding their bodies lecherously at him, making him panic and suffocate.
“Aiba!” Jun screeched, calling for his genie while squirming his body in between the dancers, desperately trying to move. But he was totally blocked as all the dancers were crowding in on him and groping him nonsensically. Jun’s voice got stuck in his throat as he let out a whimper before it turned into an involuntary giggling as he was tickled in between the groping. Thankfully or not, that was when Aiba noticed him.
Aiba was clearly not amused by the dancers’ actions toward his master as he immediately jumped and ran towards Jun, elbowing the dancers on the way to pull Jun away from the eager dancers. Jun was appreciative of his swift action as he rubbed his chest in relief. But it didn’t mean that he wasn’t miffed at Aiba, who he swore he would handle later.
“Don’t touch my Master okay!” Aiba reprimanded the dancers, wriggling his index finger warningly at them. All the dancers pouted before they went back to their space (which wasn’t much anyway) and started dancing again. And Aiba started cheering once more like he didn’t get angry and threw a warning at them just now.
“Aiba, please stop them. Make them go away.” hissed Jun, not wanting to shout since he was mindful that his neighbours would hear them. His hand gripped Aiba’s elbow a little too tight to make Aiba pay attention to him.
“Master doesn’t like the music?” Aiba turned, looking at his angry master and Jun was a little surprised that Aiba’s eyes were already starting to swim with tears.
Oh no, not this trick again!
“It’s not that I don’t like it, but we’re disturbing our neighbours. Didn’t you hear them knocking outside?” Jun said in a rush, a little louder than usual just because he was afraid Aiba couldn’t hear him amidst the loud music.
Aiba looked relieved.
“Oh, I thought the people outside wanted to join us too? But don’t worry Master, I won’t allow other people to come inside our home without Master’s permission!” Aiba beamed at him like he did the smartest thing ever, which Jun would have complemented if it wasn’t for the situation Aiba had brought right now. He made an imaginary face palm.
“Can you make them go away? Please…” Jun pleaded instead of getting angry again, hoping that Aiba would listen this time.
Aiba looked at his master and then turned to the dancers and the musicians who seemed oblivious to the tension between the occupants. With a pout, Aiba made them vanish in an instant.
As soon as the annoying music was gone, a few of Jun’s neighbours poked their heads inside. Their faces showed genuine curiosity. Their anger had faded together with the music. Jun immediately bowed to them and apologized profusely, saying that his stereo has been acting up and he needed to get it fixed soon. Jun had to bear their disgruntled and warning words and after Jun bowed at them many times, they seemed to accept his apology. The neighbours also seemed to be very curious about Aiba. Aiba was mirroring their curiosity too. Luckily, Jun was able to herd them away and out of his apartment before they started asking questions about Aiba.
Jun heaved a sigh after he closed the door. He quietly shuffled to his couch and dropped his body there. Aiba followed, dropping his body on the couch just like Jun. He watched Jun rub his temple. Somewhere in his mind, Jun questioned his decision to keep Aiba. But it was silly. He wanted to keep him so he needs to face whatever challenge Aiba would bring.
“Why did you do that, Aiba?” Jun sighed, looking so disappointed. He was tired of getting angry at his genie.
“It’s too quiet in here and I got bored…” Aiba said matter-of-factly while twiddling his thumbs in a playful manner.
“How did you even get them here?” Jun asked again, this time out of curiosity.
“Well… my family usually invite them to our parties when I was little and I miss them so I invited them here…” explained Aiba smoothly.
“I thought you said you won’t bring anyone else inside my home without my permission?” Jun reminded him.
Aiba looked sheepish and just grinned at him, realizing his silly mistake.
“Are they genies too?” Jun asked again.
“Oh no, they’re dancing demons. They were previously called Demon Star but now they said they call themselves Disco Star! They said the word ‘demon’ scares people away so they changed it.” Aiba was chuckling as he explained the rough history of his favourite band.
Jun wondered whether it was the name or their weird-sounding music that truly scare people away.
Jun made Aiba promise not to call them again. Aiba seemed reluctant at first since he apparently really loves the band a lot.
But he eventually agreed to his master’s request, although he did try to negotiate things with Jun.
“Not even with just a few dancers?”
“No.”
“Not even without music?”
“No, Aiba and it’s final.”
“Huh, Master is no fun!” Aiba complained loudly and it made Jun chuckle while looking at his cute pout.
By looking at the still pouting genie, Jun realized that he got so many things to teach Aiba. He didn’t know where to start. It would literally be like teaching a four year old kid since Aiba has never been exposed to anything after he was captured when he was a child, not to mention that the world had changed significantly from what it was like a hundred years ago. The culture Aiba was living in then and the culture now are surely different. And Jun didn’t know if genies’ cultures are even similar to humans’.
Jun looked around in his apartment and his eyes landed on his flat-screen television in front of them. Then it was like a bulb was lighted above his head. He had found something good to show to Aiba in the mean time until he could find something better. He chastised himself for not thinking of the idea before. “There are so many things on TV that Aiba could learn.” he thought.
“Alright, just sit here quietly. I’ll turn on the TV. What would you like to watch?”
As soon as he turned on the TV, Jun shrieked as Aiba jumped on him and screamed like a banshee.
“W-what’s that? Master, there’s something inside the box!” screamed Aiba from behind him.
With the innocent question, Jun chuckled, deeply amused. He was forgetting that Aiba has never seen a television in his life.
“It’s a TV, Aiba. Something that you can watch to entertain yourself.” Jun explained.
He never thought he’d have to explain how a TV works to someone in his life before. And now he was explaining simple things to someone who just came out of his cave.
“Ah, there’s a tiny man trapped inside it! We must save him!” screamed Aiba again, tugging at Jun’s arms when the TV showed a weatherman doing a news report.
Jun grabbed him just as Aiba was about to jump on the TV. “Oh, this is too cute.” Jun thought. He smiled as he held Aiba’s shoulders gently and stared at him. It was easy to forget his disappointment and anger with Aiba like this.
“No one needs to be saved, Aiba. There’s nobody trapped inside that box. It’s just an image. It’s like…like…” Jun trailed off a little bit, looking for the right word but Aiba helped him.
“Magic?”
“Ah, yeah, it’s something like that probably…”
Jun showed Aiba how to use the remote, and luckily, after a few demonstrations, Aiba was able to quickly grasp the gist of it and was already experimentally flipping a few channels excitedly. Jun was glad that Aiba didn’t have the desire to jump inside the TV again.
After Jun thought that it was safe to leave Aiba to his TV, Jun retrieved the food he bought that was somewhere on the floor. He ended up buying bentos and miso soups from the convenience store since he opted for a quick purchase instead of buying more complicated food from a restaurant.
Jun didn’t know whether his genie would like the food he bought, but still, he heated the two boxes of bento inside the microwave. After a ding, he brought the bentos and the soup towards his couch and placed the food carefully on the table.
He opened the packages and slid one of them in front of Aiba whose eyes were still staring fixatedly at the TV in fascination. Jun split his chopsticks, as well as Aiba’s while his eyes were watching Aiba who didn’t notice the bento pack and the soup at all.
Jun nudged Aiba.
“Mmm? What is it Master?” answered Aiba distractedly, eyes still on the TV.
Now the TV seemed more important than his presence. Jun felt something akin to jealousy of the television. But then he realized in horror that he was jealous of an inanimate object. He cleared his throat, chastising himself for his stupidity.
“Do you eat this?”
“I can eat it.” answered Aiba again with the same tone as before. But still, he didn’t make a move to pick up his food. So Jun picked one of the cute little rice balls up for him and positioned it near Aiba’s mouth. Aiba’s nose moved to sniff the warm rice ball. After regarding it for a few seconds, Aiba’s hands reached out for the little ball and popped it inside his open mouth. Aiba’s eyes widened in delight and Jun felt relieved that Aiba seemed to like the food.
However, the next scene made Jun’s jaw drop. Upon noticing the presence of more food in front of him, Aiba grabbed the whole package and shoved everything inside his mouth. He swallowed them in one go, including the hot miso soup regardless of how hot it was, and without chewing either. He burped loudly as he dropped the empty package onto the table.
“Aiba… that was…”
“It’s delicious Master!” declared Aiba before his eyes went back to his TV. Jun’s head followed Aiba’s to see what was so fascinating. It was an animal program on one of the documentary stations he has subscribed to in his cable. “So Aiba likes animals.” Jun mused.
After dumping the empty boxes into the dustbin, Jun made his way to his bedroom. He took a shower and after drying himself, he went to his drawer to pull out some shirt and pants. He took out an extra T-shirt and pants and set them on the edge of the bed.
Jun had to literally pull Aiba away from his TV and drag him to take a shower. Jun wasn’t sure whether a genie needs to shower or not but since he was a clean freak, he wants people, or in this case even a genie, to be as clean as possible if they want to live with him.
It wasn’t hard to goad Aiba into shedding his clothes but his mouth just couldn’t stop talking. He was asking too many questions. “What is showering? Why does he have to take off his clothes while showering? Why is Jun not naked too? What is a soap?” His questions were simply never ending. Aiba squealed when the shower was turned on by Jun. He was claiming that a heavy rain is pouring down so he could play and sing in the rain. Jun really wanted to leave Aiba alone in his shower, but the genie apparently didn’t want to be left alone and clung his wet and nude body onto Jun tightly, making Jun wet too. Eventually, Jun decided to take a second shower that night after Aiba had successfully pulled Jun out of his clothes. He then took both of his hands to make him dance and sing in the ‘pouring rain’ with him.
It was weird and awkward standing naked in the shower with Aiba, but his excitement and happiness was infectious and it eventually transferred to Jun, making him sing whatever song Aiba was singing. They danced naked in the shower like little kids and after which, they played with bubbles. Jun felt that it has been a long time since he let himself loose like that and have fun. “Having a fun genie isn’t so bad after all.” he concluded.
Particularly, Jun could say that he and Aiba has made a bond (not in a sexual way, he needed to add), right there in the shower stall.
They took a little over an hour and Jun had to force himself to stop.
After wrapping himself in a towel around his waist, Jun fetched an extra towel and gave it to Aiba so he could dry himself.
Eventually, he had to help Aiba after he was awkwardly fumbling with his towel. And before he could strangle himself with his own towel, Jun had to come to his rescue.
Jun looked at his clock on the wall and apparently, it was nearly three o’clock in the morning already. Time flew so fast. He didn’t realize that they had been in the shower for too long. So, he decided that it was time to sleep and he was so grateful that he was still on his holiday tomorrow.
Since Aiba had resumed his TV-watching since he said he wasn’t feeling sleepy after the long sleep he had previously, Jun bid him good night and slowly climbed onto the bed and fell asleep within minutes.
It was a little past five o’clock in the morning when Jun was suddenly woken up by loud voices. He groaned, thinking that Aiba might have turned up the volume of the television too high. Walking sleepily, he fumbled out of his bed and opened his bedroom door with the intention of scolding Aiba to keep quiet.
However, his intention died down in an instant as soon as he opened his door.
He thought he was dreaming.
In front of him, there was a big elephant with a long trunk pushing his couch, tearing it apart. A group of monkeys were clapping and cheering the elephant on. There were also a few deers sniffing his walls, zebras chewing his books, an orangutan clinging to his racks, and many colourful birds flying freely everywhere. There were so many small animals Jun couldn’t even name running around on the floor.
“Okay, this isn’t right. I’m dreaming.” Jun thought again. So he rubbed his eyes and when he opened them, he saw the same thing. But this time, he noticed something else. A big tiger was coming towards him slowly, smelling him and putting its paw on him.
In an instant, everything turned black as Jun fainted and dropped onto the floor.
He didn’t hear Aiba say “Ooops, I did it again…”
A/N I'm sorry for the long wait (I'm not sure if there's many of you who waited though >.<) Anyway, Nino will appear in the next part (yay!)
