I think I watch more Disney films than most people.  Certainly with more frequency.

This is of course a consequence of the children.

What did I do after I watched The Princess and the Frog this afternoon?  Watched it again.  And everyday for the past two weeks.

Baby is really into frogs right now.

The really weird thing is that I have yet to be sick of the movie!  I still laugh.  I still sing along.  I sometimes still get a little tear in my eye.

And when I think of the past twelve years...the phases the children went through...Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Snow White & the Seven Dwarves, Nightmare Before Christmas, My Neighbor Totoro, A Bug's Life, Toy Story, Lion King, Mulan, Lilo & Stitch, The Incredibles...

It's interesting that most Disney (and affiliates) films hold up with repeated viewings years after they've been released.  And even with complaints of Disney brainwashing, I find there's still room for progressive thought amidst the conservative framework and it always moves me.

I come home from work, sit down with the baby (age 2), pop in the movie of her choice, and watch it with her.  It's strange and magical and unfair that you have to be "present" during each child's obsessions.  You're not allowed to leave the room, nor are you able to concentrate on anything else, perversely drawn in by something you've seen for the fiftieth time.  You CAN, however, fall asleep and the child will be perfectly content to sit next to your dead weight, bobbing to the soundtrack.

(Thank god I don't have to sit through baby's naptime DVD of choice, Hamtaro, which is my sister's realm.)

Can't wait to see Tangled. :)
