I plan them maybe once a year. If that.
A function to me involves 10+ people, usually 15-25 folks. That means figuring out how I'll be feeding them all, keeping them entertained, keeping certain people away from each other, and that either the place or the activities to be performed are appropriate for the function.
I'm trying to decide what to do for my birthday next week...I want it to be a small affair, probably food and video games or something. But eh...holding off for now. I'd be happy just hanging out, so no need to really plan anything grand.
Right now I'm trying to find a cheap place to order 100 photo postcards for invitations for my big graduation gig next month. This is the place that's the best so far (
HERE), on sale for about $20, but looks like another discount is on promotion. It's a pretty cool site...full color photo back and you can put a photo and text on the other side, color or b&w.
We've reserved the restaurant already and ordered three dishes, my mother will be providing two other ones. We'll provide drinks. I'll be making a DVD slideshow of "five years of university" and there SHOULD be some karaoke, but I need to see if there are some DVDs I can borrow from the library (or see if renting's cheap). Maybe dancing. Haven't really decided. But if there's gonna be dancing, I'd rather it be jazz/swing/salsa/80's-style because I'm already going to be making the invitations to embarrass my mother, no need to be booty-bumping in front of my mother's friends.
I had my sister take a number of ridiculous, embarrassing pictures of me that are meant to be collaged onto my invitation, but my brother REAAALLY dislikes the funny approach apparently. Here are some of the possible choices:
I skipped out on actual graduation, but went to a small multicultural graduation ceremony. We were given special multi-ethnic stoles (that little cloth dealie) and those in the scholarship program got nifty medals with our names on 'em. I "graduated" in my Khmer clothing.
Personally, me looking disgruntled almost absolutely has to be on there. It's just too funny for an invitation for a party celebrating my "accomplishments."
