Once's "Falling Slowly" is all-around a really beautiful song. I hope it gets the Oscar. (See the clip
here) A pair of poor musicians play together in a music store because they cannot afford a piano.
Tho, I'm a little saddened that "If You Want Me" wasn't nominated. It's got a haunting quality, even if the other one is catchier. (see it
here) Helping the man compose lyrics for his song, the woman goes to a convenience store in the middle of the night so she can piece it all together through the headphones of her discman.
Still, I can't believe Enchanted got nominated for THREE SONGS. Like damn. Isn't it Alan Mencken? That man doesn't quit. Once has some stiff competition.
Also, even if I didn't particularly LIKE Across the Universe, its music for a decent portion of the songs is AMAZING. This is the movie musical that redoes a bunch of Beatles songs. If you ignore that the story was crappy and some of the song choices were ehhhh, the other songs are quite addicting.
"I Want to Hold Your Hand" -- (
Clip) (
CD version) -- I LOVE it. Carpio's got an amazing voice and I love the deep longing in the way she sings it.
"Something" -- (
CD version) -- I like the really sad twist added to it (as opposed to Harrison's more optimistic version)
"Let it Be" -- (
clip) (
CD version) -- the most emotionally powerful song in the movie. Them people got some pipes. For full sound effect, go with the CD version. It's just that the visuals are powerful.
"I've Just Seen a Face" - (
clip) (
CD version) -- interesting visuals, but the clip is blurry. I mostly like the beginning and the look on Jude's face. The CD version is heavy with instrumentals. The "Mmm mmm mmm" stuff suddenly got sexy. LMAO. It's a really nice cover.
"With a Little Help From My Friends" - (
clip) -- Probably only fun on-screen. It's the wacky choreography that does it. XD
"Across the Universe" - (
CD version) - not bad. :)

Just say no to ugly door decorations. In protest, we took down the hideous door nameplates on our apartment door (Jack Bauer and SUNS??). I decided to draw all of us as superheroes. Someone else is doing all of us as Disney characters. Originally, I was going to be Harley Quinn (since that's who I was for Halloween and Wonder Woman and Superman is what they were for Halloween) but it didn't seem fair seeing as how the idea is that our heads are being placed on someone else's bodies (and Quinn's got a mask, face paint, AND a cowl).
So I am instead Dark Phoenix. Wonder Woman, Superman, Nightcrawler are also present. Sorry for the shoddy quality (and the mega-huge size of the full image). If you wait a few days, I'll have them inked and colored (even though I'm a TERRIBLE colorist) and sized down to something presentation-appropriate.
Relatively quick doodles. I decided I HATE fire (but I like the way the "d" in my name came out).
