Divergent, and other random thoughts

So I read Divergent in less than 24 hours, which isn't really surprising given that I'm on vacation, but it does bum me out because I don't have Insurgent yet. Plus the third one hasn't been released. This is too much of a drive-by post for the genuine thoughtfulness the book deserves, but I've had a lot of stuff rattling around in my head, and I wanted to toss out a few ideas.

1. Wow, I like Tobias so much more than Peeta and Gale put together and multiplied by 50 shades of grey. Seriously, he seems so much more like a real person in his own right rather than a love interest dude created because YA novels are supposed to have love interests.
2. My bizarre obsession with post-apocalyptic fiction continues.
3. cybertoothtiger, you said that you found the casual attitude about the death of children more disturbing than it was in THG, and I didn't get that. Huh. Talk to me about it, if you are so inclined.
4. When I finished the book, I realized that it touches on a question that has always been a giant puzzle for me. I'm such a fannish dork (which is news to exactly no one), and when I'm devoted to a character, I'm just IN LOVE. But what makes me curious is this:

Do you think you're attracted to characters because they are in fact like you or because you very much wish to be like them?

I would love to hear some opinions on this. Probably everyone is a bit of a combo. But when I was thinking about which faction I'd wind up in if I were in the Divergent universe, I could never come to a conclusion. I'd want to be Abnegation, but I'm not that selfless and not that capable of keeping my mouth shut. So idk! What I just said will make zero sense to anyone who hasn't read, but you can still hit me with thoughts about the bolded question.

Okay! Dinner and then ice cream. I love ice cream. Almost as much as I love the new icon I used for this post. I would kill for a Jack/Renee icon like that. Have a great week, you guys!

book talk, i'm such a pseudophilosophical wannabe, rl
