adrenalin211 and I watched the pilot and first ep of Political Animals last night.
The biggest feelingsball was a giant shitstorm of PTSD about Hillary Clinton and the 2008 election. But ahem. Anyway.
I can't imagine this show is going to succeed, because in a lot of ways I think it's trying to be The West Wing, only without Aaron Sorkin (you know, back when Aaron Sorkin was Aaron Sorkin). In any case, it's trying to do too much -- the gay son who snorts coke and sleeps with random studs, the devoted son who's marrying a bulemic, the probably alcoholic grandmother (omg Ellen Burstyn, I cannot even deal with her amazingness at all, and why does she look so terrific?), the "I-am-totally-Bill-Clinton" lech and his big-boobed popsie gf, the cutthroat reporter with a heart of gold and a nerdy-looking boyfriend who's boinking the fresh meat at the paper, and so on and so forth. I'm sure I'm forgetting things.
But. SIGOURNEY FUCKING WEAVER. Forever and ever, world without end. I fell in love with her when I was 17, peeking out from behind my hands while I tried to make it through Aliens. She's one of those actresses who can make me cry just by changing her face a little, and she is full stop fabulous.
I could easily natter on for a thousand words, but I won't. It was just nifty to feel feelings about anything on TV again. Add to that the fact that some random person on tumblr
pretty much posted my end of S8 thoughts in a nutshell (warning: this random person also has very random music that automatically plays when you load the tumblr page), and I've had worse days when it comes to pop culture.
Also, I did NOT remember USA being so naughty, with the profanity and partial nudity. Where have *I* been? Don't answer that. LOL. What's going on with you guys? It's pretty quiet around here lately.
p.s. Exact quote from another random tumblr person yesterday, regarding Roslin and Adama having sex: "Old people squick me." O_O
