You don't need a life when you can watch someone else's on tv

I'm not usually a big fan of reality tv but I love watching the Finnish Idol. I'm envious of people who have to courage to try to make their dreams come true. But mostly I just really like to mock them. The Finnish Idol judges aren't quite as nasty as Simon Cowell (whom I love to hate) but they are very often brutally honest. And I mostly agree with their assessments of peoples singing , although in today's episode they let a couple of people - who I thought were mediocre at best - to continue on to the semifinals.

Myötähäpeä is a word in Finnish which means feeling shame on behalf (and with) someone else. Sometimes watching someone butcher a song makes me feel it so strongly I have to change the channel. I don't like to see people cry but I find some perverse enjoyment seeing people who are really lousy singers getting extremely angry at being told they suck. I can't understand why their friends or family never told them that maybe they shouldn't sing in public. I also get really annoyed when people who have great voices choose to sing in English when they don't know how to pronounce the damn lyrics.

The sister finally went home. She was supposed to leave on Monday but she couldn't because she had to watch the latest episodes of Stargate:Atlantis and Sg-1 with me. Atlantis wasn't as good as usual but then again, when it's bad it's still pretty good. Sg-1 was slightly less boring than the first part of season 10. I really want to like Sg-1 but it's not the same without Richard Dean Anderson - even though I really love Ben Browder and Claudia Black. I find Michael Shanks too annoying which is kind of strange considering I used to be a huge Jackson/O'Neill fan. I also don't like Morena Baccarin anymore. And not just because her character is a complete Mary Sue.

It's a good thing the sister went home. I don't think I could've handled one more night of playing Scrabble. Last night we played until five in the morning. And then we slept until it four in the afternoon. No wonder I haven't gotten anything done today.

tv, the sister, it's hard out here for a fangirl
