Wow, what a week this has been

I've spent most of it doing my damnedest to try and patch things up with a certain someone by phone, email, carrier pigeon, etc. It's been pretty rough, because I know she's got more then a few legitimate points, and what I did was dumber then dirt, but I think things are finally basically okay between us. I'll tell you, though, I'll never make ( Read more... )

Right, just the house, but one of my neighbors warned me that the city's seriously cracking down on building code violations for sellers, especially the new ones that nobody knows much of anything about yet. So I guess a lot of people have been getting surprised when they go to list and the inspectors come around. I know the place is basically liveable by most peoples standards, but I been seeing a few signs lately that there might be a roof leak, so I'm sure I'm going to have to see about fixing that.

I know this one guy down the street tried to sell last fall, and after sitting on the market a few months, he finally got someone interested enough to get an inspection done on the place. Then the city hauled off and told him it's in violation of the building codes because it only has one exit, which never stopped anyone from letting him buy it, naturally. So he got pissed and pulled it off the market, and decided he was just going to rent it out, but they wouldn't let him do that because of the same thing, and they start fining him for it and everything, so he had to call in a contractor to come knock out a hole in the kitchen wall to put in a second door, which cost a fortune. And now the market's gotten even worse, so he's still living there, just with more debt coming out his wazoo.

So I can't help being scared of whatever they may come up with, so I think I'm going to head it off and call in an inspector right off the bat just to give me a heads up as far as what to expect.

If there is a leak in the roof try to get it taken care of as soon as you can. Even patched would help. We knew my mom had a leaky roof, it was repaired at least 15 years ago or more. It's developed a new one and over the last few years has gotten worse rapidly. Now there is a problem with mold that I'm not sure how far it's spread. After the chef and the berry get back from vacation we have to see about getting that taken care of before winter hits and all the heavy snow collapses it. Basically the sooner you can take care of it the better in the long run. To bad no one will do it for free or real low cost.
