Herbert J. Freeman arrived in a neighbor's boat with his mother, Ethel M. Freeman, 91, frail and sick, but with an active mind. She kept asking him for a doctor, for a nurse, for anyone who could help her. Police told Freeman there was nothing they could do. She died in her wheelchair, next to her son, on Thursday morning.

It was half a day before he could find someone to take away her body, he said. "She wasn't senile or nothing," he said. "She knew what was going on. . . . I kept saying, 'Mom, I can't help you."

I had to rethink a lot of my post after reading that.

It isn't the fault of the people, will to survive is mans most basic instinct. FEMA is being blamed on all levels of government for not doing the one job they were suppose to do.

"We had warning with this. When it's a biological or nuclear attack, there won't be any."

When that finally happens, can we really count on FEMA to bail us out? The storm should have been taken more seriously. They knew the levees couldn't hold up against a catagory 4 or 5 storm, but they failed to evacuate people til it was too late. I guess they forgot that some people can't afford means of transportation and were stuck in the city.

I think a more than a few people should be fired, including our president. you know he had the power to call up any airforce base he wanted and tell them to start making food and supply drops all over the effected area any time he wanted. He dident even start sending in more things until 24 hours later, and that reaction time makes me sick. at least "daddy" told him to wipe that godamn smirk of his face when he appeared on television.
