America Rant

I was sorta inspired by Willis to write this. Not the same message as his though.

On Sept 11, when the Twin Towers fell and the Pentagon was struck, about 2200 people died. Donations for relief victims scored as high as 125 million dollars. However, with this diaster, the police were all tied up helping victims escape and keeping order at ground zero. What does this mean? It meant that during that time many people took advantage of the situation and robbed stores knowing the law would not do anything about it. The attacks did have long lasting effects on the stock market and airline companies, but in a country that consumes over 40% of the worlds natural resources what country will feel sorry for us?

Now remember to last December when the tsunami that flattened much of southern Asia's coastline killed over 260,000 people. However, donations for them only reached about 20 million dollars. About 118 times more people were killed from this and the money donations were very scarce. They resorted to begging for donations after a while. Yes, their economy is different and a dollar goes furthur there, but we lost 2 buildings. They lost hundreds if not thousands of buildings, tourist revenue, which is all they have being on a coast line. After that horrible disaster, the people pulled together and used what we gave them to rebuild and renew what they had lost.

Onto Hurricane Katrina. New Orleans and Biloxi have been completely devestated. Many buildings have been destroyed, lives have been lost and the country is certainly feeling the effects of rising gas prices due to the refineries being shut down. New Orleans and Biloxi, being on a coast line make all their money off of tourism and gambling. They have no real industry. I felt bad for them. Homes, jobs and lives lost. However, after a few days, I start to see reports of looting in broad daylight and the cops doing nothing about it since survivor recovery is the top priority. When I saw that looters have begun to arm themselves and are killing cops I realized the deplorable state this country was in as a whole. The way we conduct ourselves in a time of desperation is sickening. You didn't see this "justified looting" and "Every man for himself" shit going on in Asia. It's no wonder much of the world hates us. We are very greedy. We take everything we have for granted and if it gets taken from us we feel that it's owed to us to take what we can in turn. It's only getting worse. Bands of people are going around raping and robbing others. Oh wow Mr. Bush you sent in 1,500 cops to control a situation involving over 100,000 people. Very good Mr. Bush. Now let's send a guy armed with nothing more then a toothpick and the clothes on his back to stop the war on terror.

I'm not one of those assholes who goes around saying "OMG ANARCHY ROX!!!" but the government could have done a much better job in helping the people who need help. Dead bodies in the streets, rotting animal flesh everywhere and just a disease ridden place not meant for anyone to be in. The ignorance we had in this storm also had a large effect. We didn't evacuate prisoners and now they have to be kept under the guard of cops and some of them are escaping. Look, a hurricane is a hurricane. A Category 4 or 5 is really fucking serious. When your city is below sea level you better care. Man cannot beat nature, he can just be stunned by the power it has and watch in awe as he realizes there is not a thing he can do to stop it.

So many countries have it worse then us, and we feel that in time of tragedy we can just up and revolt against the law and do what we please. Well guess what, we can't. It isn't that way. This disaster is proof that Anarchy is a fucking stupid concept, and that Americans are pretty much just greedy pigs who will do anything in their time of need so long as they can serve themselves. What happened to the morals of this country anyways? Nobody stops to just help someone. We always expect something in return. There are good people who need help. Turn on CNN or just go to msnbc.com for a lot of articles on the situation there.
