Another (fiscal) year down

Sep 30, 2021 23:32

Congress managed to squeak out another continuing resolution today, and the President signed it sometime before 7:10pm (which is when the email came from OMB saying he'd signed it), so work as normal tomorrow and not shutdown nonsense. The anticipation of a possible shutdown left me worn out, as evidenced by the fact that I didn't really wake up until 8:30ish this morning, about 2 hours after I normally do.

(for new readers, a large part of my job is "appropriations law", or, the law surrounding what federal agencies can and cannot do with their cash, so when we go into shutdown mode I'm in high demand, as pretty much every legal question at that point becomes about money, and the lack thereof. if we had shut down I'd have still been working.)

After work I got the bug to knit something, but not the scarf I'm working on, so I went down the rabbit hole of my Ravelry queue and picked out a hat for myself. Had a yarn picked out for that one, but of course didn't have the right size circular needle (and there is no way I'm doing double points if I can use a circular). It'll get here tomorrow (thanks, Amazon!). So I ended up working on the scarf some anyway. It's a good TV pattern - one side is all knit stitch, and the other is an easy repeat where the pattern has repeats of 2x, 3x, 4x, 3x, 2x (k2, (p1k1)x2, p1, (k2p2)x3, k3, (p1k1)x4, p1, (k2p2)x3, k3, (p1k1)x2, p1, k2). The husband was teaching this evening, so was a good time to knit.

Oh, and this afternoon while the husband was trying to procrastinate on something else for work, we decided to rearrange the bottom room of the house. It's this little space behind the garage, off the main entry hallway, and we hadn't really done a lot with it. There's no door, it's just hallway into the room. The husband bought a treadmill earlier this year, and we put it in there without really moving stuff around, so today we rearranged so it looks like we actually planned the room instead of just dumping things in there. The treadmill is no longer blocking the sliding glass doors that lead out to our patch of moss out back (it's all shade thanks to a high fence and the neighbor's trees, so nothing else really grows there), and when it's up you can't see it from the hallway. The TV and chair look intentional, and you can more clearly see the growing Lego town on the bookshelf, which is now on the wall opposite the hallway and no longer blocking the view into the room. Felt much better pretty much immediately after we got it all switched around.
