You'll be happy to know that the US government is actively working on things to celebrate the
250th anniversary of the founding of the country on July 4th, 2026. Or at least so I'm lead to believe based on the memorandum of understanding between the Small Gubm'nt Agency and the "Semiquincentennial Commission" that I just got for legal review. Whee.
Interestingly enough, this will not be the first Semiquincentennial celebration I'll (hopefully) be around for - my 5th year college reunion back in the previous century (1999) was also the semiquincentennial year for the
school (and I find it fascinating that the school's web site does not mention what the W&L initials stand for [Washington and Lee], after the Board of Trustees voted not to remove the "L" from the name of the school earlier this year; could it be because his name is causing applications to go down? hmmm...).
In the meantime I'm looking forward to seeing how news anchors start to stumble over trying to remember/pronounce "semiquincentennial".
