Juanita's sister died this week. She had a form of cancer, but that isn't exactly how she died. Juanita went to visit her and found over half of her leg to be completely black. Juanita called an ambulance. After arriving at the hospital, she didn't live for more than a day, as the gangrene overpowered her body. This wasn't a woman who live alone like Juanita, either. She had children and children's children in that house with her, but none of them did anything. Ambulances and the hospital can be very expensive. When I think about poor communities, I imagine lives to be like mine, except a lot less comfortable. But it's a different world, entirely--I cannot claim clean hands from its existence. No, I don't think I'll ever be able to do that.
