Hour early call from Amanda - silly east coast. Midnight Birthday Breakfast with Scott (after which he vowed that every noun would have 'Birthday' before it and conducted his speech in this absurd, but cute manner for the rest of the day). Woke up at 8 for class at nine. Read between classes for one at 1:30. Came home, opened various cards. Juanita's card read "For My Daughter, if only you could know how much I love You". She's in poor health these days. Dad sent me money and a letter detailing his pride for me and various memories he had of me growing up, some of which I had all but forgotten. Cried uncontrollably. For a long time.
Dinner tonight was lovely. Thank you Hassan, Chris, Amy, David, Greg, Lance, Geoff, Adam, Warren, Heidi, and Scott for coming with me on a school night; thanks especially for paying so much money for such an outing. It was an Italian 'family style' restaurant called Maggiano's...free refills on everything, from the salad, to the salmon to the tiramisu. So delicious, so full.
Scott got me Frida (one of the best movies I've ever seen) and a simple, but beautiful bracelet. Even though it was loose, I decided to wear it out tonight. Upon coming home I found it was no longer on my wrist. I know simple, temporal possessions, (especially jewelry) are things I generally care very little about, but I'm still really upset and saddened despite my best logical efforts. He and I (but especially him) have lots of work this evening. So I'll spend the rest of it reading Marshall Sahlins. But every spare moment will be spent thinking about Saturday, where some sort of spectacular day has been prearranged. Direct quote "I don't want to make this out to be too big, but I can honestly say it will be one of the best days of your life." Whoa. What am I supposed to do for the rest of the week other than unendingly speculate about what could possibly be that exciting?
