Not enough time to do a full report now, but I had a great day today! Obviously
misswinterhill was there, and I also met up with
in_the_bottle,
stuffphile,
qthelights,
joanne_c,
oh_contraire, and a number of other people's whose LJ names I didn't quite catch.
Got autographs from GDL, James Marsters and Mary McDonnell, plus a photo with GDL. Went to GDL and Mary McDonnell Q&As, and will catch James Marsters Q&A tomorrow.
Gareth's Q&A was great -- I made detailed notes and will be able to do a full report when I get home, but no one asked any wanky questions, and Gareth was really lovely and engaged -- he was both funny and tactful. And as I'm sure you all know by now, he mentioned reading
sam_storyteller/
copperbadge's LOLcat fic. I found him nice but a bit impersonal during the autograph and photo session -- I have the feeling he has con burnout, and I also have the sense that he's more comfortable interacting with fans while he's on stage rather than one on one.
Mary McDonnell has been my unexpected highlight so far -- I mean, I always loved her character on BSG, but I wouldn't have come to the con to see her -- but she was LOVELY, both when I went to get my autograph and during her Q&A.
It was quite interesting to hear Mary McDonnell so soon after GDL, given that both of them spent time talking about the ways that their characters died and what those deaths meant, etc. I have THINKY THOUGHTS that will go into my more extensive report.
When I got James Marsters' autograph, he spent the whole time telling me what a lovely person John Barrowman is (this is because I was getting him to sign a Jack/John poster). He seemed to have genuine affection for JB, which was nice.
Mostly though, it's just been great to meet up with so many fandom people, to talk about fannish things, to talk openly about writing fic, etc... thanks so much to everyone I've met for making this a great day (and hopefully we'll have another great day tomorrow). :)
(Ack, that sounds so corny. :P)
Anyway... I'm going now. :)
