Five years of not touching a video game console has helped in college. On my sister's shelf, I re-encountered Final Fantasy VIII and the good old Playstation 2. This game pissed me off because I couldn't defeat Ultimecia without killing Rinoa. I later realized that I missed out on a lot of things that I should have done. I gave up and decided not to deal with. A few days ago, I started over and I'm taking it pretty slow (1-2 hours a day). That was until I forgot about the magic lamp. I'm depressed that I didn't tackled it early on because it gets harder as the characters level up. I don't get a chance to use the mug command. *sigh*.
Another game I'm doing at the same time is FF Tactics. I'm playing the Playstation version with my laptop. Instead of the characters stuck to a certain area, they could move around. This requires a skill in planning attacks which I find more fun than FFVIII. I end up starting over if two or more characters die.
The things I hate about RPGs is that I hate how tedious it is to level up. It's a bitch to grind over and over to get to a higher stats. I griped over Aerith's death in FFVII because I wasted time and Gil making her stronger. When I played the FFX, I taped the analog stick to make the Tidus to go in circles/up against a corner and something heavy to press the "X" button for attack. I would nap, eat, watch TV, or do chores in the mean time.
However the two titles I'm playing don't allow me that luxury. In FFVIII, I you have to get magic from enemies or draw points instead of the usual magic points. The monsters get stronger as you get stronger, so grinding is pointless.
I seriously need to stop...
merciless chocobos,
grinding,
video games
