Froo froo stuff to talk about

Ron gave me La Femme Nikita Season One for my birthday and a combo VCR/DVD player for the bedroom, so I've been able to begin indulging in my favorite TV shows that are no longer airing (Buffy, Nikita, Farscape, etc.).

I can rave on and on about this show, and while I think they have a great cast that had great chemistry with each other, obviously my favorite part of the show is Peta Wilson. As I mentioned in my hair color post, I'd love to have my hair be her color. I think she's really beautiful.

Something else I like about this show is that they are always doing funky fun things to her hair and having her wear outfits that are kind of weird, but of course look great on her. I like this because it always challenges my opinion of what looks good and prompts me to do my own experimenting with hair and fashion. Well, OK, so the only thing I've done fashion wise is to wear boots with a skirt, which I never would have done if not for (a) seeing it on Nikita, and (b) having Ron say he kinda likes it.

I will experiment with my hair, and now that I have a flexible job with an easy going boss, I can do a little more with my hair, like put different colors in it. For instance, right now it's reddish brown with pinkish red accents on top and in front and dark blue underneath in the back. For New Year's I put a little bit of pink and gold glitter spray, but I don't think anyone noticed that because I was too afraid to put more on.

My friend Julie (aka Kaprielle, Soarell, TDL Lawyer's real life wife) has beautiful, long, thick brown hair. Right now it's got some golden highlights, which is of course gorgeous, but a couple years ago she had it a darker brown with burgundy highlights and very thin gold streaks.

Donnie (Donnierwx on my friends list) does fun stuff to her hair too. She's got dark brown hair with red--and I mean RED, not auburn--underneath, with subtle purple and dark blue streaked about. Very pretty. Between her experimenting and her friend Liz who always has fun colors in her hair, that's what encouraged me to do some hair fun myself. Now that I have the reddish pink and blue in my hair, next will be a reddish purple and purple. Mmmm, poh-poh. Fun stuff!

Part of me thinks it's silly for an overweight 37 year old putting unconventional colors in her hair, but really, it makes me happy to have this sort of freedom that I never really got a chance to exploit when I was younger, since my job doesn't dictate a certain appearance and my husband seems to like it.

Along with this hair vanity, I'm also a total froo froo when it comes to makeup, and I always have been, though as I'm getting older and more confident (though not necessarily body-wise), it's fun to try new things like purple or teal mascara. Fuck those fashion mavens who think that stuff is for young women. I like it. I especially like it when my husband says, "hey, your lashes are purple!" Haha!
