Adventuring in DC

slothshaman was in town this past week and we got to spend a couple of days with him and onyxsolare. On Wednesday 12/29, we made plans to meet in DC at Brickskeller Saloon in Dupont Circle. The bar boasts to have over 1000 beers, and we definitely wanted to try some new flavors. They were coming from Woodbridge, we were coming from Centreville, both taking the metro. We planned on being there about 8:30 pm, but it took me longer than usual to get ready (which is now becoming my usual :/) and we didn't actually get on our metro at Vienna Station until just after 8. So since it's a 40 minute ride, Ron called Claudia to tell her this and she said they were on their way too. I was thinking, "hmm, I wonder if we'll meet them at Metro Center, then." Sure enough, we did! Just as we reached the platform, I saw them standing right there! They said they were just wondering the same thing when I walked up. How convenient. :) So we hopped on the next train together. Dave, the one that doesn't live in the DC area, kept us straight the whole night with regard to the stops. He joked about the fact that we weren't very metro savvy. It's true, though, hehe.

We walk about three blocks, and thankfully it wasn't that cold out. When we get to our table, the waitress tells us that they are out of a lot of beers. I guess the owner was trying to release some inventory for tax purposes. Anyway, she tells us to give her a list of five beers each and she'll bring back whatever they have. Sadly, they were out of many, many beers, and our poor waitress was obviously very unhappy with all of the stress, but she was still always very pleasant and friendly with us. Our first round arrives with Claudia, Dave, and Ron drinking HEATHER Ebulum Elderberry Black Ale from Scotland and I got HEATHER Fraoch Heather Ale 12oz from Scotland. I think there was another beer here too, but I can't remember what it was. Ron is the details guy, so he'll have to fill in all the info that I leave out.

My next beer was COOPERS Sparkling Ale from Australia and Claudia got DRAX 16.9oz from Roumania. I liked it, but this was Dave's opinion of Drax:

We took several pictures on my camera and Claudia had a camera too. Unfortunately, a few of my pics came out too blurry or too washed out. Here's the ones that weren't so bad.

At the end of the night, we paid our bill and gave the waitress a very nice tip, I think, and she told us that we spoiled her very much and said something to compare us favorably to the rest of the clientele, which made me laugh. I had a great time and I want to do it again soon! Next time, hopefully they'll have their regular 1000+ selection because there's lots of belgians I'd like to try.
