wines 6

ladies and gentlemen, like returning to the scene of the crime and stopping to stare at a car-wreck gorefest because you can't look away, all at once, i'm writing about another Bolla wine. why would i inflict this shudder-worthy pain onto my senses? well, for one, there was a bottle lying around from before i knew how much Bolla sucked. secondly, i take pride in making an effort to review horrendous wines so as to entertain my readers with descriptive hyperbole while selflessly steering them clear of inflicting said pain on themselves (unless they're into that kind of thing, in which case, i have some feces i'm willing to part with). and of course, i get to reestablish the fact that my aunt is an idiot, which is a not-so-rare treat that i just can't resist.

  • Bolla, Merlot '02, Verona, Italy
-smells like farm. that's all, folks. no fruitiness or oak or any other wine-like scents. this one is all about old mcdonald and his plentiful hay-and-dungpiles
-just like the Sangiovese di Romagna, this wine has no primary flavor to it. the fringes aren't as strongly unpleasant as the SdR, but it's the same bitter/sour deal. as it's a Merlot, it's also a little lighter.

in all fairness to this wine, expecting it to be a piece of shit, i cooked with it before tasting it properly. though my suspicious were obviously confirmed, it was great in my red-wine risotto because all the harshness was cooked off, leaving behind a pleasant, generic red wine taste.
