Splurges

A few weeks ago, I splurged on two new games: Ace Attorney: Investigations and Tatsunoko vs. Capcom.

Maybe the "awe" that an Ace Attorney game brings is starting to dafe me on. Or maybe it's the fact that I've already played through the Japanese version. But AA:I didn't really leave that much of an impact on me.

Case One and Two were both kinda "meh" and the last case was waaaaaay too long. The localisation was also kinda "meh".

And Maya's a lot more interesting than Kay (and a bigger klepto to boot).

Having said that, there were some things that I liked. For example, the truth behind the Yatagarasu, Detective Badd, Edgeworth telling ***** off for trying to play *****.

Also:

[Kay] Yes! That's it! So hurry up and let's *schwing* already!

An e-cookie for you if you can work out what she's going on about.

All-in-all, the game made me nostalgic and want to replay the original games - so it can't be all bad...

As for Tatsunoko vs Capcom, my opinion can be summarised in two words: LOVE. IT.

I'll probably be picked on my fluffyduck and evilhayama, and other "classic" beat-em-up players, but...

I LOVE THE SIMPLE COMMANDS!

There. I said it.

No more getting thumb blisters trying to get the difference between a Hadouken and a Shouryuken, no siree!

The selection of characters is great too. Even though the majority of the characters are unknown to me, there's lots to like about each one. I wish they chose Kyosuke instead of Batsu though (glasses fetish talking).

I was also disappointed to find out that Fransizka Von Karma was considered as one of the playable characters in this game, but didn't make the final cut. That would have been funny.

My favourite characters would have to be Roll (for the ability to rob Ryu of his dignity) and Frank West (because summoning zombies in trollies to attack your opponents is classic).

As most of my gamer friends know - and when I say gamer friends, I mean FFXI online linkshell buddies - FFXIII came out this week.

I have no intention of getting it at this time - not because I believe some of the negative reviews, or the fact that most of the main characters have hairstyles that annoy me, or the face that I didn't ever touch FFXII. But simply because getting it would require buying an Xbox or PS3 (which is too big a splurge for me at the moment).

Hasn't stopped me from gaining an unhealth obsession with the trailers though. I'll probably have "My Hands" in my head for the next week or so... @_@;;

EDIT: It's nice seeing Cid as something other than an old man or the game's "butt monkey".
