Bought the kids bikes this weekend! They haven't had bikes in forever because there is no place to ride near our house. The street we live on is a busy secondary road that everyone speeds down (a car flipped over and landed in my nieghbors driway last year!). Plus there are so few flat areas to ride on it would be a major undertaking to load up kids and bikes in the van to find an appropriately flat place for youngsters to ride. Now that Celest and Thomas are older and more independent I am comfortable allowing them to ride around the immediate area (with helmets!) to visit friends and just ride around. With all the hills around here (you have to go up and down at least three steep hills to get almost anywhere in Pittsburgh) I'm sure they will establish their own perimeter, which I'm fine with. Our borough is a small town next to the city so we know people on almost every street they would be riding on if anything happened. Not to mention cell phones! I was Celest's age when I would go out on my bike for hours, just riding around on my own with no way for my parents to get in touch with me. I didn't even carry a dime for a pay phone! Tangent. Sorry. So the kids have been riding every day that it hasn't been raining. I'm just wondering when the newness will fade. Hopefully not too soon. I want to get my money's worth out of these bikes : )
