Rapunzel had spent the week brooding. Or, as she liked to call it, 'thinking very seriously'. At first she'd only known that the island was wonderful, full of nice people and amazing things to do and see and just, well, wonder. But it was becoming clear that it wasn't all just fun and loveliness. Sometimes people spent days with their personalities changed!
She realized that most people just shrugged, but the idea was just too horrible for her to do that. That sort of thing never happened back home. Mother had been right: the outside world was scary and dangerous and no place for her.
Of course going back home would mean facing mother after being missing for a month. Missing without even a word of warning. Mother would be furious. But eventually she'd forgive Rapunzel. She had to.
And then things could go back to normal. Boring, maybe. But safe.
She'd miss the beach, of course. And her friends. And even her classes, which were interesting in ways she'd never expected. But it was all just too weird. She didn't fit in this world. She couldn't just watch unthinkably horrible things happen to her friends and just shrug it off.
So she'd found the number for this 'Portalocity' thing. And dialed it. But things hadn't exactly gone as smoothly as she'd hoped.
"Destination?" she repeated into her phone, "I want to go home!"
"N-no, I don't know what my universe identification number is."
"Not that either."
"Or that."
"It's just home, okay!"
As the conversation dragged on, Rapunzel's tone grew more and more desperate. "I don't know any of that! I just want to go home! To the tower! To mother!"
It went like that in circles for quite some time, but it quickly became evident that the poor Portalocity booking agent just couldn't help her.
"Th-thanks anyway," Rapunzel mumbled into the phone. Then she sank onto her bed, tucking her knees up under her chin and wrapping her hair around her like some sort of blanket.
Or armor.
And tried not to cry too loudly.
[Rapunzel forgot to close her door, so people might have heard any of this. And they're welcome to stop by if they like.]
