After talking to Derrick tonight, I got a huge slap in the face. Not only because he was probably making fun of me :-P But, just seeing situations of people in his life right now. Today he told me that a friend of his family, Kathy, has cancer. She's basically been told that she's going to die. That's bad enough in itself, since she's 45. I used to think that being 45 was old, but man alive, not at all anymore! She has two children under the age of 10! Wow, the grief and anger she must feel right now! I cannot imagine. I cannot imagine being told that you're not going to see your children grow up. You won't be there for their graduation or wedding. You won't be there to comfort your daughter when she comes home from prom, crying because her night wasn't as magical as she'd hoped. Don't get me wrong, I KNOW that God works miracles, and I trust that He'll hear our prayers, as we lift her up. But it definitely humbled me, to realize that people are undergoing so much... grief. I complain here, about how stinky my life has been lately, but do I have room to complain?
Another instance that saddens me- Derrick's brother in law is over seas fighting right now. He has a son, Dylan, whose birthday is this weekend. Wow. I never really stopped to think hard about missing your child growing up. Honestly. Your child only has his 2nd birthday once. He only takes his first steps once. He's missing out on one of the greatest gifts of his life, his son, because he's fighting for our freedom! I'm floored tonight.
I'm glad that God created laughter so we wouldn't only focus on the negative things in life. Laugh as much as possible.....
And please, pray for Kathy. But also pray for her family and friends right now, like Derrick's mom. It's heartbreaking, I'm sure, to know that someone you love so much is going through that. Also, please pray for Brent, Derrick's brother-in-law. Pray that he'll find God and that God will bring him a peace through his comfort and presence. Don't stop your prayers here! There are many other families going through similar traumas..... Sarah's for instance. Her dad has cancer. Another thing the Gatke family needs. I'm so glad that they're so strong, because they're just facing blow after blow. God trusts them with a lot! Please also keep praying for Mark. Please! Prayer is so powerful! It should be the steering wheel of our lives, not just the spare tire. Pray for Skylan as well. Kid, I love you and I most certainly am praying for you! I know what it feels like.... and I'm sorry you have to face this too! :'( But I'm glad God provided us with such a strong friendship to lift one another up and get through it.
Night ya'll. Pray hard!
