I'm going to try and do a two minute lesson on poetry today...just a quick intro to some aspect...either meter or villanelles. I'm nervous though.
With changes in testing the Reading teachers have to include more poetry. But the Reading teachers are intimidated or afraid, and that is making me nervous. What if I do a horrible job and these bad feelings about poetry continue? As a result, kids never learn even to appreciate poetry? I gotta do a good job.
I love poetry, but that's partly because I've accepted the fact that I'm not a poetry guru and I just like what I like whether anyone else thinks it is good or not. That's what I need to get across to students, like what you like. I was thinking of the Villanelle because that form is naturally so emo...very junior high.
I'm going to school an hour earlier than usual to prep. My life is like a series of speeding trains and I keep showing up at the depot with only minutes to spare before the next train I need to get on takes off. Running, always running. The Doctor would know how to teach poetry.
I may, in the near future, make a Dr. Who quilt. A friend and big Doctor fan is having a baby. I threw out the random possibility of a Dr. Who quilt, and she likes it, especially for a boy. Now I'm trying to come up with a concept....the tardis flying willy nilly away from an explosion?
