Today has been a good day for me.
1. For lunch, I had a bacon-tomato sandwich with the fresh sourdough bread I baked last night--I'm so excited that my sourdough is coming out well!!! I've tried to make sourdough in the past, and the first batch usually comes out okay, but maintaining the starter is tough. This time, I think the first batch wasn't nearly as good as the second loaf...which is how it should be since I am just developing the starter. Some bakeries have used the same sourdough starter for over a hundred years, cause it just gets better as it gets older...so long as you maintain it and make sourdough on a regular basis. Two loaves isn't much, but it does mean I am on the right track!!!
2. I made Peanut Butter Brownies, which I haven't made for 5-10 years. I used the same recipe that my mom used all the time that I was growing up. I love peanut butter! I don't put chocolate chips in them, because the chocolate is such a strong flavor that it overpowers the peanut flavor. These are the ooeyist and gooeyist brownies ever! They are so yum! The only reason I don't make them more often is because peanut butter can get expensive.
Peanut Butter Brownies
½ cup peanut butter
⅓ cup butter
1 cup sugar
¼ cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 cup flour
1 tsp baking powder
¼ tsp salt
1 pkg chocolate chips
½ tsp vanilla extract
Beat peanut butter and butter together until well blended. Gradually add sugars. Beat until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time beating well after each. Mix dry ingredients. Add to wet mixture. Stir in chocolate chips and vanilla. Spread into a greased 9 inch square pan. Bake in oven at 350° F for 30 to 35 minutes.
3. I've been working on a couple of different quilt projects and making good progress. For my nephew's quilt, which is inspired by Poseidon & Percy Jackson, I added an Omega Ω to two of the cornerstones and tridents to the other two. They look good! Now I just have to go back and do a blanket stitch on them. I am trying to figure out what do on the border between the cornerstones...coral reefish? After I added the applique, I started sewing the binding on a baby quilt. It is going slow because I am pinning meticulously, but that's okay because....
4. I've been watching the extended version of Lord of the Rings while I work. I'm about half way through Two Towers.
5. Tonight we're going to go see HP7 pt. 2 for the second time. YAY!!!
Two weeks until I have to go back to work. I intend to enjoy every day of it just like today.
The only thing that I haven't worked on today, that I should have, is my Camp NaNo story. I'm way behind for the month. I'm not giving up on the story, but I am sufficiently discouraged that I'm doubtful that I will make the word count. I think I will write enough to finish the story, and then add plotting and characterization to the second draft to make it better. It needs to get so much, so much better.
