happy spazzings. I need more

I think this sets a record for least time between two of my posts. Yay?

Anyway, writing again because I wanted to comment on a couple other things that happened this week, and hopefully it won't turn into a moan fest about how I've only got a month left here ... I shall leave that one for another time. But right now, HETALIA!

Yeah, I saw the Hetalia movie with a couple friends on Wednesday, and I must say: Oh my god LOL.
So walking in there, we pondered what in hell they could use to make a full movie about. It's Hetalia, and while rich in history and in-jokes, it's rarely serious or coherent enough to make something that lasts more than 10 minutes. And it kinda shows here. This movie is padded like a Japanese bra, which excerpts from the actual show. And while they showed good moments, it was about the fifth time they did this that I actually muttered "Can we please get back to the aliens?"
And yeah, aliens. That's the plot. White luminous aliens descend upon Earth to care-bear-stare us into becoming one with the collective. Also to turn international icons into marshmallow. So the main countries are losing their shit and trying to figure out a way to save their people and their planet. Hilarity ensues.
So a couple notes on things that really struck me (read: made me giggle incoherently)
- Switzerland's neutrality was a fucking superpower. I kid you not. The alien ships usually zoomed over the countries' airspace zapping as they went, but going over Switz was like hitting a brick wall. So while chaos reigned (more than usual) outside, he and Liechtenstein were having picnics, admiring the scenery and being generally cute (which is just as well, because Ed and Al deserve a break from hero duty :P)
- Italy gets the bright idea to disguise themselves as aliens to get aboard one of the ships. The others grudgingly try it, and then Italy says "K, see ya!" and Germany has to drag him onto the ship. Oh, feel the love >_>
- At one point, the countries are trying to get the aliens on their side by showing them awesome things that each of them do. China: food. France: food. America: Las Vegas (>_> XD). Japan: Bon Odori (I was a little gleeful at the Taiko. Did I tell you we learned how to do Taiko last week?). England: food. England, you prat.
- Germany is hot (Yes I do recognize my PSL, thank you). He needs to run around the jungle in a tanktop and cargo pants more often. England in the red thing is also surprisingly appealing. (Part of this may have been a reaction to them finally being out of the stupid alien costumes)
- Roma-jiichan doing his song in GLAM J-ROCK STYLE. As soon as the cast hit the beach, we knew Rome was gonna show up with his song, somehow, but this version made me fall out of my chair laughing. He had red stars painted over his eyes! Best moment in the movie, period.
- Fight scene! It got some decent animation and almost everyone was pretty good. Russia may not have been the most effective, but it was hilarious to see aliens run up to him only to be deflected by his hand held up in front of him.
- Italy saves the day by taking a leaf out of Jigglypuff's book. And yet I buy this, given that it's Hetalia.

Sorry I fail at HTML. Bottom line: If you like Hetalia, you will like the movie. The rest of you, it depends on whether you like your crack well-done or crack, period :P

In other news, yesterday the CIEE kids visited an elementary school in Shinagawa, to let them practice their English and to show us a little more culture. ATTACK OF THE ADORABLE. A couple of us were assigned to each grade, and I ended up with the third graders, who were simultaneously loud and shy. Except one kid who yelled "I am steak! How are yooo!" Not the best at English, but easily the most enthusiastic. He also asked each of us to pick him up :/ K then. The kids really liked the tall blond boy in the group, but they all made their way to each of us and we had fun. And then they held our hands (or hung off the boys' arms) as we all went to the auditorium. So cute. And I wish I could put up more photos, but there are Japanese laws about photos of children online... sigh.

Okay, need to head out so last thing: I think I'm going to do this. Wish me well ^^;
